Canada Kicks Ass
Dear Canada: Stop with the redneck clichés

Cave, bad.

Knuckles, hurt.

Grog no like change.

Grog no like progress.

Grog go hunt now.

Grog build fire.

Hard to believe that was us mere days ago.

Before the great orange orb of light shone on us and lit the way to a magical place the rest of Canada feared we’d never mature enough to see.

We were guided to a gloriously friendly, hug-a-minute new world of acceptance and caring where the biggest sin is using the wrong recycling bin.

It’s a Glee world and we’re finally a part of it.

Yes, if you believe out-of-province opinions and the partisan punditry of Twitter, Alberta has just undergone a great enlightenment.

Voting an NDP government has somehow made us more tolerant and better stewards of the environment.

We’ve stopped beating puppies and kicking the homeless off our pantlegs.

One Eastern columnist pointed to a gay Alberta friend who finally feels free to vote without fear.

A West Coast editorialist says we are no longer defined by our truck balls hanging off the trailer hitches in a caravan to the oilpatch.

What a crock!

Albertans voted out a government that took advantage of our trust.

The majority parked their vote with the leader who showed the most integrity.

Nothing more.

Nothing less.

We didn’t magically become tolerant of gays or abortion or atheists or green-haired, tattooed, arts lovers.

We’ve been tolerant and accepting all along.

No less tolerant than any other part of the country and a hell of a lot more accepting than most places on the planet.

To suggest otherwise, is misinformed.

Confused about Alberta? Come visit.

But don’t project redneck clichés and dated stereotypes to think this election is more than it is.

The rhetoric that Alberta has somehow come of age by electing the New Democrats is patronizing, insulting and belittling.

On May 5, Alberta’s political culture changed. Albertans didn’t.

It mostly just showed the ROC that not all Albertans are like you. And for that we're truly grateful.

Well, good luck Alberta. Hope your NDP experiment goes much, much better than Ontario's stab at it.

What the opinions of out-of-province assholes sound like to Albertans.

Seriously, just fuck off already. You don't live here therefore you don't matter in the slightest.

Yes I do, but the ones bitching here are the ones reinforcing the very stereotype they are bitching about.
