This also goes by the name "Trans-Texas corridor" which makes it sound like it only involves Texas. It will be extremely expensive and so far hasn't gone past the planning stages, luckily.

... Actually after finding out more this has only begun in Texas & even there, there isn't a lot of support for it, mainly because of the fact that the "NAFTA Superhighway" will be privately owned & have a toll. Add to the fact that private corporations could sue the state for building other highways that might compete with it I doubt that it would get far beyond the planning stages. & that NASCO organization apparently has only 3 full-time employess, hardly a powerful political force. Some of their plans are really off the wall; apparently they've envisioned a gigantic freeway with a speed limit of 140km/h, 5 lanes in each direction, with oil pipelines, fibre-optic cable & a few rail lines all going together. The whole works would be about 400m wide, and quaint little towns would get bulldozed out of the way if necessary & land would be bought/taken from farmers or anyone else who owned land that would be used for it. That's a lot of obstacles to overcome & realistically I don't think it would happen that way. (never mind building it all the way through the border to Winnipeg)
http://www.thenation.com/doc/20070827/hayes

Perhaps this explains the increased beligerence of the RCMP when dealing with cruisers this past summer. They are trying to match their beligerence with that of the US coastguard, and get us used to being treated like yanks in our own country. A friend said "If they want to make the yanks feel at home here ,then save the beligerence for the yanks, and continue to treat us Canadians in the way we have become accustomed to, with courtesy."
Brent

This is just a cartoon, but I think they'd agree. Can we draft them for the cause?
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1089/730937290_fa57a1b542_o.jpg
