Peter Lougheed finally died, the guy who is reponsible for the fact that Canadian oil gets exported and refined in the US, where they sell it for less than Canadians pay, to buy back our own gas.
He said "I'm a Canadian first," then said '"The oil belongs to Alberta first."
Transfer payments to Ontario, Alberta controled welfare payments, are not the same as allowing cheaper home sourced energy to make their manufacturing industry more competitive, allowing them to earn an honest living.
Albertans say he was wonderful, an easy lie to promote, when any criticism of him would get you fired in an instant. North Korea and Burma use the same control tactics.
When he built his golf course, he didn't like the brown Alberta sand in his sand traps, so he brought in train loads of white sand from the US. What other white stuff was being smuggled in that sand? Its pretty easy to separate water soluable white stuff from insoluable white sand. Detectable residues may still remain in the sand.
Lougheed finally died. Too bad it didn't happen decades sooner. Good riddance to the super hippocrite, and treasonous sellout.
What an asshole!
Pierre Trudeau and Marc Lalonde saw Western Canada as nothing more than a box of resources to enrich Central Canada, and saw Western Canadians as second-class citizens undeserving of the wealth they had worked hard to extract. Lougheed defended Alberta's morally legitimate and constitutionally valid interests from a hostile Central Canadian left-wing elite bent on using appropriated wealth to buy votes in the East and tighten the control of the central government over Canadians. Trudeau was the asshole, not Lougheed.
