I apologize for the site being down almost all day today, but it was out of my hands.
There was a fire in downtown Vancouver that knocked out power in a portion of downtown including the harbour centre, where the CKA servers are located in the Peer1 data centre.
The diesel generaters died from overheating after 20min, and the backup UPS failed after another 15min. The data centre people worked all day to fix the problem, but it took them almost all day.
It's pretty crazy that this happened, this is the biggest data-centre in vancouver, CKA is small fish compared to some of the huge sites and corporate clients hosted in the building. I'm sure potentially millions were lost.
Because of this, my appointment to install the new server wsa delayed, it might happen tommorow or the next day.
I heard it on the news...
How long do you think you need?
OH SHIT that is why I couldnt log into my work puter from home...ya i do that
What burned?
BC Hydro cables underneath the streets...
No one hurt though?
Here is a video newscast of the fire

The site was down??
Sorry...on the road.
Oh damn!
Good luck man.
Shit, glad everyone is okay.
Happy I don't work or live downtown. Another day and it would be like dawn of the dead except with vegans.
Our power in richmond went out in sympathy around 2pm also.
Well with your HTC touch you should have teathered to the server. You do have unlimited data rate right ?
This fire really screwed up alot of different systems, CKA was screwed, lots of our computer applications at work were buggered, blackberrys were pooched... and it goes on.
