WIP: CKA Blogs!

i can't add a new blog....been away for a while so maybe something has changed? in my profile, when i click on add blog or whatever it says to that effect, i get the following error

General Error

You are not allowed to post a new entry in this Blog.

any ideas? thanks.

hmm not sure why that is happening, I will look into it tonight. Your blog isn't loading for me either. Sits for 30seconds trying to load. This happened to Artic_menace's blog awhile back, I will have to remember what I did to fix it. I will get it working tonight, when I get home

hmm well i found out why your blog wasn't loading, it was the shoutbox... I disabled it and it loads fine. So maybe spammers got in there somehow and spammer thousands of messages in the shoutbox.

I made a test entry and it worked.

I will look into whats wrong with the shoutbox, I'm pretty sure this is also what happened to AM's blog.

I purged all shoutbox comments not made from a registered user. Guests shouldn't be able to use the shoutbox... so they might have been shouts from awhile ago. But if they were new there might be some way that spammers are getting through..

I'm doing some work on the Blog system, noticing lots of blogs started with 1 psot then never updated again. Also serveral blogs thats sole purpose seems to be advertising another website.

I was thinking about deleting all these advertising type blogs and deleting any blog started before 2008 that only has one entry. Do people think that's a good idea?

The blogs should be functional again with the forum upgrade. There are some missing images here and there.

The Blog system needs a major overhaul, its high on my list after finishing the forums.

anyone else getting a lot of spam comments on their blogs?

when i re do the blogs i will add CAPTCHA for guest comments.

UPDATE - MAY 24th, 2008

I have migrated the blogs over to a new blog system that runs of the new phpbb3 system rather tham the old phpbb2 forums.

I wasn't planning on doing this until I got all the converison stuff figured out, but since the blogs were rather messed up anyway and people were having problems posting.

The new system has some new features but many features are also missing. I will be re-adding many features back over the next week or so. I still have everyones blog settings and I will migrate over as much as i can.

But for now i'm going to bed, heh. All the blog customizations have not been transfered yet, so if you customized colours, backgorunds, header graphics, they won't show up right now.

Feel free to poke around and starting using it though. I know there is some broken images here and there, I will be fixing these tommorow.

Also with the new system I can create global categories blog posts can be filed under. If you have an recommondations for categories let me know or post them here.
