Okay, we've done favourite guitarists before, but how about top vocalists. My top 10:
10. Kim Mitchell - the master of phrasing a lyric.
9. Steve Perry - the power falsetto
8. Chris Cornell - Grunge.
7. Klaus Meine - not bad for ESL, eh?
6. Ian Gillan - power!
5. Sarah McLachlan - vulnerability is hard to project
4. Geoff Tate - range, wow!
3. Melissa Etheridge - who puts more into her vocals than Etheridge?
2. Brad Delp - my favourite vocalist
1. Roger Daltry - the ultimate frontman.
I think you need tu sub Ronnie James Dio in there for Gillan. Tlk about power...
Also, Trent Reznor. The emotion he manages to convey contrasts perfectly with the machine like pefection of the music...
No Ian Gillan has to stay on the list. I recommend Jesus Christ Superstar (the studio album, not the movie soundtrack). Ian Gillan sings Jesus. Amazing stuff.
Off the top of my head, I'd go;
1. Paul McCartney
2. Robert Plant
3. Freddie Mercury
4. Eddie Vedder
5. Elvis
6. Bon Scott
7. Burton Cummings
8. Ian Gillan
9. Rob Halford
10. Ozzy
I'd put Sarah in a different category (jazz / folk) altogether.
Don't think you can go wrong with any of those lists. Maybe a substitution or two but it's still solid!
Where's Ella?
No love for Till Lindemann? Bastards!
In no particular order:
1)Rob Halford
2)Bruce Dickenson
3)Ian Gillan
4)James LaBrie
5)Roger Daltry
6)Geoff Tate
7)Geddy Lee
8 )Bon Scott
9)Robert Plant
10)Glenn Hughes
Hard to pick just 10, mine aren't in any order either.
Peter Steel
Rob Halford
Bruce Dickenson
Mathias Blad
Geddy Lee
Lisa Middelhauve
Hansi Kürsch
Ville Valo
Tarja Turunen
Freddie Mercury
IMO I think Chris Cornell does not fit in the list at all, and James Hetfeild stays on top of my list in the rock genre.
I've never heard any other vocalists that can go from a scream then pitch to normal in a fraction of a second without taking a breath.
He's some where in my top 10
