Living in BC, let me tell you why this contracting out proposal is such a stupid idea. First, it is to an American company. Sure'y there is some Canadian company that can do the same work? That leads into the next point. Since it is an American company, it is subject to the PATRIOT Act, should it be used. It probably won't be a problem, but the mere fact that there could come a time when the US government could look at the private medical records of Canadian citizens is why a lot of people are opposed to it, not because "liberals" oppose all forms of private-sector capitalism.

Buy a freakin' newspaper, Godz. It is an American company. The BC privacy commissioner looker into it and said that it presented a problem because of the implications of the Partriot Act.

I know the news got to Quebec because I've talked to people there who have been following this story. In the mainstream press.
