I knew about them! But, I am a nerd.

Digital computers are specifically over designed analog computers. Analog electronics do addition, subtraction, sine, cosine, tangent, integral, and differentials functions with very simple circuits. Programming them is the hard part, because they only do one specific thing.

   

I had several as a kid. Sliders, gear wheels to calculate things back in the 1960s.
And those old calculators with the handle you had to pull after every entry,,,,
I don't think analog will be making a comeback any time soon.
