Wouldn't it be interesting if Russia and Iran put together a coalition of the willing to deal with ISIS and Obama refused to join?

Zipperfish @ Fri Sep 05, 2014 10:14 am

That would be convenient. Then we wouldn't have to join.

And after the mess is cleaned up who decides what happens with what's left?

What makes you think it will ever be cleaned up?

N_Fiddledog @ Fri Sep 05, 2014 11:52 am

Depends on what we're calling the 'Mess'. What I mean is ISIS in Sham.

Wanna see them get cleaned out? Watch what happens when they get weak enough Iran and Syria can deal with them.

You libs wanna have lots of hot chocolate ready for the Canadian Jihadi wannabes that escape and come scurrying back here looking for protection.

I mean the entire middle east. ISIS will just be replaced with Al Queda or some tin pot Dictator or Radical Religious fringe and the whole cycle will just start over.

As an article I posted yesterday said:

$1:
Stepping back from that conflict, of course, would also mean cutting off the billions in aid Washington sends Israel and Egypt.

But what of it?

Rightist Israeli politicians, after all, have talked for years about weaning off the American teat, and what reasonable justification is there for sending money and weapons to the murderous new regime in Cairo?

Rand Paul, in fact, has proposed cutting off all American foreign aid, period.

As for the rest of the Middle East, Walt concludes, “most of the disputes and divisions that are currently roiling the region do not pose direct and mortal threats to vital U.S. interests.”

Rather than building flimsy excuses for democracies in places that manifestly don’t want them, America could concentrate on rebuilding itself, something everyone here seems to want.

I always find what the pretend media like CBC and the Guardian don't tell you to be the most interesting.

For example: they tell you this -

$1:
Rand Paul, in fact, has proposed cutting off all American foreign aid, period.

They don't tell you this -

New Rand Paul op-ed: If I were president I’d have acted more decisively against ISIS

Like the Russians "cleaned up" the mess in Afghanistan?

So, that big long commentary and that's all you took away?

Perhaps they don't quote Rand Paul because no one in Canada or the UK cares what he thinks?

Let Putin save Assad from ISIS, aren't they bestest pals or some shit?

True and even more Putin means it.

Foreign aid and acting against someone that threatens your interests in the region are two different things. Quite frankly, I'm of the same opinion when it comes to foreign aid. At $16 trillion in the hole and counting, it doesn't seem to make sense to essentially borrow money just to give it to someone else.
Same with Canada for that matter.

You really think the likes of John McCain and Lindsey Graham would let him cut off all the money their corporate sponsors demand from the taxpayers from assisting them in the form of Foreign Aid?

Russia wasn't successful in Afghanistan so I wouldn't have too much confidence in their fight against ISIS or any other fundamentalist group.
