I know that the Sun is not that popular around these parts but I saw that he was in grave condition on Facebook, and was shocked to learn that he died less than a minute later. Wow.

Yea, that escalated quickly.

RIP Jim. Really sad news. That guy devoted so much of his life to his province and country. And he never got a chance to really enjoy a retirement.

You could tell he was not a well man and hadn't been well for some time. Quite something that he worked for as long as he did, when he certainly didn't need to.

Sorry to hear this.

RIP. He was a pretty classy politician.

R.I.P. Jim Flaherty, one of (if not) the best finance ministers ever. He lived and breathed Canada, and his politics reflected that.

Sad day indeed.

A gentleman politician who, whether you loved him or hated him, steered us through a dark financial period in our history with nowhere near the negative impact that our southern neighbours felt.

RIP Mr. Flaherty. [B-o]

A strange fact. Just heard on the news that he used to campaign for PET but parted way when Trudeau starting bringing in social programs he couldn't or didn't know how to pay for.

PluggyRug @ Thu Apr 10, 2014 12:25 pm

We knew Jim and Christine personally when we lived in Whitby.

This is a sad day for me and my family.

RIP.

Wow, just wow.

Considering the mess the rest of the world is still in, this Minister did a damn good job.

RIP Mr. Flaherty.

Wow. Didn't expect to see that on the news today. RIP Mr Flaherty.

While I may not have been a big fan of some of his policies, but I certainly respect anyone who gives up part of his/her live to serve his country.

RIP Mr. Flaherty

He didn't "look right" on screen. Anyway, it's still a shock. He was far and away the best element of this recent caucus. I was actually at a funeral that he attended (Baird, Ernie Eaves were there as well) a couple of years ago.

R.I.P. He did a lot for his country, and it is sad he never got to enoy the fruits of his retirement.
