And they still remain inordinately proud of that decision, no matter how much permanent/fatal damage that rotten old thing caused to the country?

Not old enough to have put him into power, old enough to put Mulroney into power. Killed any fucking chance when they privatized PetroCanada of ever having a Canadian oil company powerful enough to build new refineries, create a Norway style heritage fund or put pipelines across Canada.

Hmm, Pierre could have created a literal paradise via his great and unmatched wisdom if the annoying details of the national constitution regarding resource ownership and management hadn't gotten in his way. Kind of like Trump in a way, wailing away about how the damn laws keep preventing him from making things, like, totally awesome.
I like the part where Canadians accidentally reveal that they're prone to cult-like behaviour just as much as our American friends are.

You can't blame Herb for thinking that way. He comes from British Columbia whose denizens are screeching toddlers prone temper tantrums when they don't get their way. They cannot even be trusted to govern themselves, much less contribute anything of value to the country.
