$1:
Bump. It's been renewed for a ninth season

And they'll need nine more the rate the plot is advancing.
Found myself thinking "Just fucking DIE, Carl. Enough with the sad mopey faces, and maudlin fantasy shots get on with it"
And how do they outdo the meat grinder so that the gore keeps people from noticing the plodding storyline.
5 of 6 episodes the last few years have been as exciting as Coronation St.

Thanos Thanos:
The parts where they do a massive zombie kill-off in a wildly non-conventional way remains the best part of this show's creativity. Like tonight for example. So that's what happens when you turn thirty or forty undead triple-crossing backstabbing artist collective heapsters into a fine puree; industrial grade shredders - is there anything they can't do?

So you’re telling me the infirmary has no security measures in case one of the patients dies and turns into a zombie? Didn’t they already learn this lesson in season 4 during the deadly swine flu epidemic that swept through the prison and they started keeping the patients in separate locked cells? Also there are no guards on duty the night after a major attack?

Can't deviate from Hollywood Horror Movie Rules:
Either NO guards or guards killed, no one notices.
As soon as "stick together" mentioned, run alone in all directions
First teen to fuck, first to die

Common sense isn't all that common in Hollywood or in real life.

Things I cringe at when I watch TV/movies:

1. A character is being chased by someone who has a gun. The bad guy gets knocked down or even disabled and drops the gun. The idiot character neglects to take the gun away so when the bad guy gets up to chase them again he's still armed.

2. A really bad guy (Negan) doesn't get killed by a determined shooter. Any halfwit military strategist knows that a charismatic leader like this isn't only your first target, he's your ONLY target. Kill him and his organization of thugs will turn on itself.

3. Plot holes like you mentioned.

4. There's a bazillion military installations around Virginia and the best weaponry anyone can scare up is a few forty year old .50 cal machine guns?

5. Zombies are easily attracted, they're stupid, and will walk into meat grinders. Yet no one will start wiping them out on an industrial scale.

Add onto that idea of no military equipment, there's no construction equipment either? Can scrounge up plenty of old gas but no diesel?

xerxes @ Mon Mar 26, 2018 10:07 am

Or that the gas is still usable after two years? I assume no one is adding the additives you use to keep it stable.

Off the top of my head the only show I’ve seen where someone address that fact is The Last Man on Earth and that show is even more unwatchable than TWD.

You can use cooking oil in a lot of heavy equipment these days so you're right that it's odd that they don't have bulldozers or etc.

Last Man on Earth doesn't pretend to be logical. It's a farce and I enjoy it as such.

So there's this Negan guy, right?

And he runs this band called 'The Saviours.'

They believe themselves to be righteous but in order to "save" everybody, they have to take everybody elses' stuff to redistribute it. Mostly, that seems to mean distribute it to themselves.

They are convinced they are necessary because parasitic hordes are roaming the streets draining the lifeblood from the old society. They believe those who are left need them to manage the chaos.

Hmmm...sound familiar.

What always gives me a chuckle isn't just how much the progressive socialists seem to love this show it's that they emphasize with the good guys and not "the saviours." They just don't get it. Makes me smile.

It’s fiction. Considering the endless self-dealings of millionaire Republicans and their crony capitalism, I don’t know how you can say progressives redistribute to themselves.

But I will concede that TWD sometimes plays to silly right-wing memes . For example confusing self-defeating stupidity with heroism (e.g. Darryls a hero tough guy for punching Neagan when they were first captured by the saviours, even though it was pointless and only got Glenn brutally executed as punishment; similarly Carl, Rosita and Sasha’s respective attempted suicide missions that were not only unlikely to accomplish anything but also put the entire community in danger of reprisal).

Even though they are the minority in both houses of Congress the Democrats still have more millionaires than the Republicans do.

Oh, Beave's just being silly and hoping you don't notice again.

Socialism is about redistributing the wealth. Capitalism is about creating wealth.

That's basic.

Thanos @ Mon Mar 26, 2018 12:27 pm

Negan runs an protection racket (give us half your stuff or we'll kill you) in which he provides practically no return of services for what he "provides". He is a classic robber-baron, with a one-way vacuuming upwards of scarce resources from the bottom to the top, all of which is enforced by brutal thuggery. This is about as perfect a description of a true capitalist that's ever been seen in genre TV. Well, him and the Ferengi from STTNG. Proud Republicans, all of them!

Negan does believe he is returning a service. He believes he is "saving" people. He says so repetitively.

Whether or not he is returning a service might be debatable but the fact he believes he is just as Maduro in Venezuela or tubby in North Korea does is not.

I haven't been watching TWD the last couple seasons but I decided to break my ban and watched a few on the weekend.

It looked like a new group of characters is being introduced. Isn't there this van of women traveling around making trades?

They might turn out to be capitalists. Even if they're exploiting a resource they've found somewhere.

There might be an interesting argument to be made there.

But Negan? No. He's a socialist.

Although not official explained, it is guessed that most of the military's hardware was lost when Operation Cobalt failed. Which took place before TWD starts.

I had to stop watching the TV series when the group took over the prison. If you don't have safety and security protocols by this point, just a matter of time until you are dead, no real point in watching.
