Milk quotas Jonny... they give the farmer the right to sell a certain quantity of milk per year. If they could sell directly to the consumer, it would be hard to calculate and control. The other reason was to assure a safe product.

The last time I was able to get milk and cream directly from a farmer was in the mid 80s.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I don't recall us kids dying off like flies because we lived in farming country and drank milk that came straight from the cow though. :P

Yeah its one those things that drives me nuts. Someone has decided that in the name of safety I can't buy the milk my neigbour gives his family. Next year I'll make more syrup and arrange a trade. I hate taking something for nothing.
