Okay yesterday I was asked to come in early today for a stress test . I show up 12 minutes late so its okay for others to go before me but the damn cardio nurse was rude . She actually had the nerve to walk up to me and say that since I am a half hour late the person for the 9:30 appointment would go before me . I looked at my watch and it was 9:18 . I thought that was an acceptable thing for the other person to go before me (afterall I was a little late ) so I agreed , but yesterday I was on time for 2 scheduled appointments and both times the doctors were late and even ran several people before me ... 2 different lies were told to me and my wife , as to why they were behind schedule . Anyhow after they finally got me in for my appointment today , the same nurse slices me open with a razor which I never noticed but she manages to cover it with electric stress test pad . Well after the Gerbil stress test (jogging on treadmill) she tore off the pad and ripped skin off . All she had to say was oops I injured you . She quickly got a little bandage . When I got home I looked at the bandage and the skin was ripped off all around the bandage plus blood spots where hair was pulled out . WHAT THE F**K IS WRONG WITH THE STAFF AT THE SWIFT CURRENT HOSPITAL 8O If the patient is their neighbour or they personally know them they actually let them in ahead of other people (fact) end rant .

I'm not looking for sympathy but if you have your own horror story I'd like to hear it and I know you have one so don't be shy .

"Okay yesterday I was asked to come in early today for a stress test "

So did they test your stress level well enough?

BartSimpson @ Fri Jun 01, 2007 2:56 pm

Because it's socialized medicine and they don't have to worry about losing customers (also known as patients) to their competition.

They can treat you however they want (up to a point) and get away with it because, in practicality, you really have no recourse.

No. Thats simply no true. In any hospital I worked in you could have been fired on the spot for such behaviour. Quite frankly its usually the other way around. We take more shit and abuse then any human should have to tolerate because many people feel that because they are sick or in pain they may act in any manner they like.

I have known techs that were sucker-punched while taking someones blood and some of the stuff nurses take is far far worse. We see alot of suffering and misery as a matter of course and yet I've seen medical staff give far greater comfort then the so-called family members who dump their old people in the long term care wards.

The bottom line is that our medical system is one of the best in the world. Every Canadian receives more medical care then they actually pay for yet few realize this fact.

Like most aspects of our society we only hear about the scant few times something doesn't work and not the other 99.9% of the time it does.

Our system works. Socialized medicine is the answer and I say that knowing full well I can make twice as much in the states and if Canada adopted a US style system could see my salary increase substantially also.

And how long can that continue that the health care system will continue to operate at a net deficit?

I prefer to pay for my medical care and not for the medical care for six or seven other people as well.

Keep your socialism and we'll keep our capitalism, thank you.

My nurses are always friendly and polite with me. My doctors have been good, except fo one walk-in clinic idiot. The only problem I had is that when this whole thing first started they leashed me to a bed with an IV drip and took them 6 hours to bring me a portable IV stand so I could go out for a smoke. They really seem to hate smokers.

Contrast that with the problems I had 15 years ago or so, and I'd have to say that things are way better than they used to be.

Its not actually operating at a deficit. It makes a profit but provides free services.

Fine. I'm not the one denigrating the US system nor saying that you should adapt our system.

You however seemed to make a comment on the inadequacies of our system based upon a single incident of something that I know happens in your healthcare system also.

Be fair now.

I've never held any opinion other then its only your countries buisness what system it uses and noone elses. I may have defended ours against yours in comparison but I didn't denigrate your method nor hold the opinion that you should adopt our model.

Both do what they are designed to do. Ours provides affordable and dependable healthcare to everyone while yours provides a varying level of care based proportionally on how much a person can/wants to spend.

Its OK. They won't have you taking blood on your first day. They'll just send you up to the OR to assist in surgery.

I still don't see the point in working in a hospital to see their side.. if i wanted to be a nurse I would have gone to school to be a nurse..

I dont see someone coming to job shadow me for a week to see my side...

If you don't then you're the only one. Its a fairly common method for doing just that. In fact they train staff specifically to see things from a patients point of view by having them go through exactly what a patient would.
