My Mother was diagnosed with lung cancer, Adenocarcinoma, (a never smoker) this year and waited three months for a lobectomy (surgery to remove the tumor and part of the lung) in Toronto. In that time the tumor grew but by the grace of God did not spread to her nodes. Still, for an extremely deadly and fast moving Cancer that is an unacceptable wait time.

This system needs reformed. OHIP is literally sentencing us to death if we're unlucky enough to have our Cancer spread while waiting for surgery. I am sickened. A good friend of mine was diagnosed with tripple negative breast cancer and was also required to wait for surgery (2 months) but the Cancer was well within her nodes.

Sorry to hear about your mother. Good to hear that it hadn’t spread. Wait times are stupid both for surgery and specialists. Not to mention the family doctor problems in Ontario. Most people have run across problems with the system. No idea what the solution is but the fact it’s run by bureaucrats doesn’t help.

The systems in Europe are largely run by bureaucrats and seem to function considerably better, have much shorter wait times, and happier citizens. They don't pay a hell of a lot more than us, either, yet their systems cover more, including dental care and prescriptions.

Maybe we trash our and go with theirs?
