The mainstream media isn't saying much about how Myanmar (Burma) is purging itself of the Rohingya Muslims the past few weeks.

Reuters has a story that's sympathetic to these people but it fails to explain why the Burmese government suddenly decided to purge these people and send them to Bangladesh.

Turns out that Burma has been the scene of a civil war since about the start of July 2017 and that the Rohingya Muslims went on a spree of terror and mayhem sponsored by the Saudis.

$1:
Here’s a closer look at the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army, the group that claimed responsibility for the attacks:

THE ORIGINS OF ARSA:

The group was formed last year by Rohingya exiles living in Saudi Arabia, according to the International Crisis Group, which detailed ARSA’s origins in a report last year. It is led by Attullah Abu Amar Jununi, a Pakistani-born Rohingya who grew up in Mecca, and a committee of about 20 Rohingya emigres. ICG says there are indications Jununi and others received militant training in Pakistan and possibly Afghanistan.

ARSA is believed to receive funding from the Rohingya diaspora and donors in Saudi Arabia, as well as other parts of the Middle East, ICG says.

The Buddhists in Burma have had longtime problems with the Rohingya establishing defacto Sharia zones within Burma and then murdering especially Buddhist women who did not comport themselves with Islamic standards of modesty.

There's been a back and forth over the years between the two sides but the recent interjection of Saudi funds and Wahhabist training brought a new brutality to the conflict. ARSA attacks in Buddhist majority areas and against Buddhist temples enraged the populace and when the Burmese government launched counterinsurgency operations against ARSA in July the quasi-democratic government suddenly found itself gaining support from the NLD opposition.

Ousting the Muslims is uniting the scores of non-Muslim ethnic groups and a number of tribal disputes have been put on hold as young men have flocked to join the army and help to drive out the Rohingya Muslims.

The Burmese government is taking in materiel support from China with the Chinese last month donating about seven million dollars worth of small arms to the Burmese. This includes three thousand CQ-A5 assault rifles and eighty CS-LR4 7.62mm sniper rifles (a mid-quality but rugged sniper rifle on par with a decent Remington 700).

While there have been from one hundred to several hundred deaths by various reports the purge is (so far) not a genocide. Burmese troops are evacuating Rohingya villages and then burning them down to prevent them from being reoccupied.

The bottom line on the conflict is that while things have always been tense between the Burmese Muslims and non-Muslims they'd at least been somewhat tolerable until the Saudis got involved with trying to make the Rohingya into the new ruling class of Burma.

Saudi Arabia is to blame for what's currently going on in Burma.

Bangladesh is a Muslim country, they should be welcomed there.

Many of the new countries in Europe after WW1 were organized along ethnic lines.
A couple of mistakes were made with leaving a too large minority in some places,
but for the most part, it has worked.

True.

And that reminds me that the major media in the USA are in the pocket of the Saudis which is probably why we're not hearing about their failed civil war in Burma.

If you haven't already, you should watch "Nobody Speak" on Netflix. That will shock you about media ownership.

Thank you for the recommendation! R=UP

Bangladesh, along with being one of the poorest countries on the planet is also one of the most moderate ones when it comes to Islam. So, it's highly unlikely that the Rohinga will be welcome given their radical beliefs and the crushing poverty Bangladesh is already suffering from.

Now if you'd have said send them to Pakistan you'd have been onto something but I don't see India allowing 1 million Muslims to transit their country. But here's a question. Given that a minority of the Rohinga are Hindu's, are they being driven out also?

BartSimpson @ Wed Sep 06, 2017 12:45 pm

I expect that the Buddhist Burmese would be all too happy to kick the Hindus out of their country, too.

"Hey guys, while we're at it I have a great idea..."

99% of the OP is BS and only a very selective quote from the article to strengthen Bartmundos Islamophobic POV. This ARSA group according to the OP article formed around a year back, while the prosecution and genocidal treatment by the Burmese has been going on for at least 5 years.

$1:
In ARSA’s first known operation, on Oct. 9, 2016, hundreds of Rohingya men armed with knives, slingshots and rifles attacked three separate police posts in Rakhine state, killing nine officers.
Knives, slingshots and probably some old ass rifles. Saudi seem to have cheaped out on the rohingya! Yeah and a "civil war" and "establishment of sharia zones" with such awesome and powerful weaponry.

$1:
Analysts blame Myanmar’s government for the conditions that led to the group’s creation. Successive governments in the predominantly Buddhist country have denied the Rohingya basic rights and citizenship, deeming most of them to be foreign invaders from Bangladesh, even though Rohingya have lived in Myanmar, also known as Burma, for generations. Bangladesh also rejects them.

The lack of a political solution to their plight, particularly after anti-Muslim violence in 2012 displaced more than 120,000 Rohingya, helped sow the seeds for armed rebellion. The disenfranchisement of Rohingya in the 2015 election, and a regional crackdown on human trafficking that cut off an escape by sea also left Myanmar’s Rohingya feeling boxed in.

Not even going to bother with rest of the bovine crap splattered all over that OP.

*Red Square Incoming !

Whatever.

The world is starting to fight back against the hijrah and if you don't like it then that's just a bonus.

Yeah thought you would tap out after having your BS called out.....Again!

This is a massive pogrom (and therefore state-sponsored) that has been well documented on the BBC and elsewhere. Some of the remarks above are little short of psychotic.

It may technically be a pogram but just what would you have the Burmese do. Bend over and take it from Radical Islam?

The Burmese thought the war with the Rohinga was over in the early 70's when alot of their fighters surrendered but, what took their place was far worse. Radical Islam arose and using the Rohinga as their sword now aren't content with creating an Islamic state within Burma they now want the whole country which is something the Burmese aren't willing to let happen especially after watching Islamic conquests of Malaysia, Thailand and Brunei.

And, you have to admit that the Islamist's must have really done something to get a religion that's first tenet is to avoid killing to become the pointy end of the stick in protecting their country and religion. A fact which may go along way in explaining the attitude of the Burmese towards the Muslims.
