Edit: Where this topic has become a catch-all for Brexit issues I updated the title.

Lots of stories on the net about this.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/15/worl ... -vote.html

The political class in Europe and the UK are all in a dither over the impending secession of the UK from the European Union.

As the above article notes the UK voters are not that concerned about it.

In any case the Brexit plan that Theresa May is advocating...which isn't really a separation from the EU but instead an acceptance of colonial status...appears doomed to fail today.

Good.

A hard exit from the EU is IMHO the best deal for the UK and the WORST deal for the EU that is getting more and more authoritarian.

Over the last few months and even the last few days we've seen the EU press harder and harder to become a central federal power over its member states.

* The EU which two years ago derided worries about an EU Army as 'paranoid' is now proudly admitting that they've been working towards a combined military for decades.

* German politicians have hinted at EU military intervention in the Yellow Vest protests.

* Euronews this morning reports that the EU Parliament is considering taking steps to prohibit politicians who oppose the EU from being elected to the EU Parliament.

* TV Mobilna (Poland) reported yesterday that Brussels is trying to suppress any reporting that favors Euroscepticism. TV Mobilna more or less told them to fuck off by publishing the EU letter/demand.

So one has to wonder if Theresa May will abide the Brexit or if she will try to arbitrarily 'remain' if the Brexit deal fails. If so a potential second referendum could result in an even higher number of Brits rejecting the EU.

If so, then what? Will May and her government abide such a result?

Interesting times.

Interesting indeed. There’s no good outcomes from this for the UK.

Authoritarianism is a tricky thing to talk people into. The Globalists do it incrementally. Where they are now is the lie that nothing else can work.

Why isn't their continued sovereignty, political independence, and financial independence a good outcome?

And if you think so highly of the EU then why isn't Canada submitting itself to being ruled by the new European empire?

Good news!!! R=UP

Now let's see if she takes it upon herself to cancel the Brexit outright as some pundits expect.

If so things will shortly get very exciting in the UK.

Opposition has tabled a vote of no confidence in the government.
It will be debated tomorrow.

It won't pass. so no government downfall.

We'll see; personally I think another round of negotiations, followed
by another vote in Parliament which will pass.

A hard Brexit will be tougher on Britain than Europe. Most MPs dont want that outcome but if they don't come up with an alternative plan acceptable to the EU27 they may crash out anyway. Theresa May spent the last 2.5 years pretending she could square the circle between Brussels and the more extreme Brexiteers in her party. She should not have started the clock running with Article 50 until she had secured the support of a majority of MPs, if necessary including some from Labour, for a particular form of Brexit. Both she and Jeremy Corbyn have proved unfit for this challenge and I'm not sure how much patience the EU27 have for yet more haggling with the Brits at this stage.

Why would you think it would pass a second time around? The EU has said no more negotiating so this will either lead to a hard Brexit or a change in government tomorrow and either a new referrendum or and outright cancellation.

They always say that right before they re-open things.

Stop dreaming about yer CommieCorbyn, it ain't happening.
DUP has already said they will support the government, no Tory is stupid enough,
not even the screaming alcoholic Anna Soubry, to topple the government at this time.

So nope nope nope.

We'll see what happens for the rest. A WTO Brexit wouldn't be as bad as
all the globalist talking heads whine that it is.

The biggest problem is the Northern Ireland backstop, and how the UK can't get out
unilaterally, not even with waiting, fines, blah blah blah.
Solve that, and the deal will pass.

That's the party line coming out of Brussels but the reality is that a free UK is better off than it is as part of a federalized European Union.

If the Brits stay in the EU then quite soon they'll give up their army, navy, and air force to Brussels. They'll also have to subsume the pound into the Euro. And the Brits will be forced into taking in more of the assholes from Africa and the sandbox.

Sorry, but the cocksuckers in Brussels get far more from the UK being in the EU than the UK does.

llama66 @ Tue Jan 15, 2019 2:26 pm

I'd rather the UK remain independent.

It’s now a matter of deciding what MPs dislike least.

Canada is in North America. We have enough trouble negotiating a trade deal with the US. Now the Brits are going to find out how much fun that it is.
