I don't know if you folks are following all of the tourist deaths in the Dominican Republic right now but here's a catch-up...

https://www.foxnews.com/world/dominican ... om-minibar

Myself, I'm seeing the symptoms these people are reporting...bleeding, fluid in the lungs, and etc. and I am thinking someone down there is using RICIN to poison tourists.

https://www.mayoclinic.org/ricin/expert ... q-20057863

$1:
Signs and symptoms of ricin poisoning depend on whether a person inhales or ingests ricin. Inhaled ricin causes fever, chest tightness, cough and severe respiratory problems, including fluid buildup in the lungs (pulmonary edema). Ingested ricin causes intestinal bleeding and organ damage. The poison can kill within three days of exposure. Even a small amount of ricin may be fatal.

I would suggest that this is going to be a major story within the next week or so.

Semi ontopic, David Ortiz was just shot in the DR.

That much is 'normal' for the DR. :|

I suspect overenthusiastic pesticide use by the staff is a more likely cause of death here, as in these cases in Vietnam:

There seems to be a common thread with bottles in the mini-bar being poisoned.

Maybe. That could just be correlated with being in the room, though.

The news today is starting to focus on the bottles in the minibars.

Perhaps it's fake hooch in the minibars.

Bathtub hooch.

Yup.

The number affected seems to be rising rapidly. Did all of them drink from the minibar?

Here are other accounts that suggest an airborne chemical:

$1:
Once home, the couple visited a doctor who diagnosed them with poisoning from organophosphate, which are chemicals found in insecticide, KGMH reported.

$1:
One expert Quade consulted, Lee-Ann Jaykus, a food microbiologist in the department of food science at North Carolina State University, said exposure to an insecticide chemical known as organophosphate could result in severe vomiting and diarrhea, but in dire cases it could cause a cardiac crisis.

Negligence is more likely than mass murder.

Thought the only WMD in a place like the DR was the crotch-rot from the teen prostitutes guys like Rush Limpbaugh go there to visit.

This is quite alarming.

Questions that come to my mind include:

Were the bottles in the mini bar brand-name spirits?

Did the bottles appear to be sealed, as they were when originally packaged? Even the mini (airport-sized) bottles make a distinct sound when cracked open. It's very obvious when a liquor bottle seal has been broken.

In many places, shifty people will put tap water into bottles and use a capper to seal them and sell them in a vending machine. Not hard to do the same with liquor, especially in places with less than reputable health practices.

If these places can't be trusted, stop patronizing them. :!: They will get the pocketbook delivered message.

Some good news for the DR on Big Papi at least. Looks like this wasn’t a run-of-the-mill shooting:
