Yeesh I'm blushing! I guess I should expect a few people know about us now, since we're getting a quarter of a million hits a month at this point. But of course it's not just my site, it belongs to everyone including you and Jesse and Dr Caleb and Kory and Poz and the columnists and everyone else who posts and makes it better all the time. It's a group effort, and everyone involved deserves a lot of credit.

Susan its true everyone that contributes makes it a better site, but it was your major effort that got it going, once in motion it evolved. The thing is I said there are great articles and petitions on vive and the response was 'Yah what a great site, and how about the Susan Thompson isn't she terrific....etc.' It's the etc you have to watch, but it was all positive.

Wow, quarter of a million!!! I had the same experiece at an NDP BBQ just before the election, I brought up the name and got a few people talking about and praising it, and a few more interested in checking it out. Too bad we couldnt win our riding... instead we've got Conservative John Reynolds.

Congrats to Vive for increasing its reach.

It would be most useful to know what are the new areas where Vive is reaching -vs- original basis. E.g. First Nations, Anglos in Quebec, Francos hors-Québec, Separatists/Federalists (Eastern&Western Canada), New Canadians, and even these "Americans"! Also Western, Central or Eastern Canada. And public -vs- private sector as well as tech, -vs- service, education, health and other sectors. Perhaps profile info could include this data and some of it kept private. This would give a better idea of how successful Vive is across the spectrum of Canadians.

Given how few people have actually filled out their profile, and how many hits are anonymous, adding extra info wouldn't help much at all. For a while we had some extra fields, but they were hardly used. Most people just don't like giving out their personal info online, especially if it's related to controversial topics.

One thing that would be useful would be mapping IP addresses using geolocation; most of our traffic is from .com and .net addresses, followed by .ca in third place.

Also worth noting is that 250k hits is NOT the same as 250k people. We're probably still getting less than 10k actual visitors per month; the log analyser we're using isn't that specific. (10k is based on my own analysis and intuition)

Well even 10k a month is pretty good. And it will only get better.

10k a month is certainly nothing to be shy about. Jesse's appraisal is the only time that I can remember somebody giving a non-inflated claim of actual use. That says something about the entire site...there's an overall attitude of honesty and fairness being important here.

As for Gaulois' question about profiling...I know for sure that people at the art-supply store I go to visit here. Same with the photo-lab I frequent. Flick is their favourite btw...It might have something to do with the people I work around but my personal feeling is that it's because he's a genius. :-)

I've also come across several (given that I'm old and don't talk to a lot of people that age) University of Winnipeg students who at least know about the site. I can't say I've met many University of Manitoba students who have been here though, or are interested in the idea of the site. That might be the people that I know though.
