A rather large protein shake at the moment. Just got home from a 2+ hour session at the gym. I need this, bad!

Isn't "fortified wine" called "port"?

"Port" is a protected name, like "Champagne".

It doesn't really come close to tasting like Port.

Ahh yes, those EU trademark laws. "Port" can only come from Spain.

Was it any good?

Port is from Portugal

Sherry is from Spain

Fortified wine is a wine to which a distilled spirit, usually brandy, is added. Many different styles of fortified wine have been developed, including Port, Sherry, Madeira, Marsala, Commandaria wine, and the aromatised wine Vermouth.

Ah! That's my confusion. For some reason I though the city of Porto (hence the name 'Port') was in Spain.

Yes, it all can be a bit confusing. It's an interesting industry to work in.

Like ray mentioned the term "champagne" can only be used when the sparkling wine is from the Champagne region of France.

Otherwise, it is just labelled as sparkling wine and most often much less expensive than the French ones.
