There's a town I think south of Winnipeg called Selkirk that had(don't know if it still does) a rather large mental institution. I think it rubbed off on the rest of the town though. We went fishing there one time and this lady asked us how the fishing was. We told her it was great and that we were from Winnipeg.
Oh my God, all of a sudden she launches into a tirade about how we should go back to Winnipeg and leave the fish in Selkirk for the people that live in Selkirk.
I still get a giggle about that when I think about it.

Ive been fishin there, right off the locks!!! Could see the instituion from there!
I was pretty young, out there with all those guys tryin to land one of those big Carp.
My mom was sittin in the car and wanted to get back to the city so she told me it was time to go. I said ONE MORE CAST and was DETERMINED to put this one right out in the middle where I could see the big suckers jumpin.
I heaved with ALL MY MIGHT...........
and watched as my rod and reel flew about 20 feet into the river...
I turned around and yelled "We can go now!"
Oh and for the record - Selkirk is North of Wpg

And no I never got the chance - we were there usually for a week during the summer so not a lot of time could be devoted to fishing

Oh man, the pike there were monsters. Good pickeral fishing too.
I had one pike on the line that was huge, never did land him though but my Canadian Wiggler lure was mangled. The front treble hooks were gone. The rear treble hooks were almost straight as pins and the lure itself was cracked.
We did find an awesome spot. There was a rock in the water, and if you didn't mind getting a little wet, it had a great place to sit, almost like a bench was carved right out of the rock. You could just lean back and relax and enjoy. We caught a big mess of pickeral from that rock.

Just make sure you bring LOTS of Muskol if you go. Not sure what was worse, the skeeters or the tics
