For once in my life, I agree with Newt Gingrich who said that America has just lost the first cyber war by Sony collapsing to these threats.

Sony actually didn't raise the white flag. The majority of the theatre houses did and Sony pulled the remaining venues in order to make the film a total loss for insurance purposes. This way they recoup their production costs and the insurance company will take ownership of the film.
I'd expect to see it at least in limited distribution and then to quickly show up on Netflix and DVD/BluRay.
