There are rumours that the Conservative government is planning to try to cover it's ass after abandoning their promise to scrap the gun licensing program, by offering to bring in lifetime licenses in the next election campaign. Given their betrayal of rural people over the promises made in the last campaign, the only way they will have any credibility at all on this promise is to have a vote on it well before the next election and by extending the life of existing licenses to lifetime licenses. If they do any less it will sound like just another tory bullshit election promise with no more credibility than the last ones . Even losing the vote will be better for them than never having it.
Brent

Tories are proving worse than the Liberals when it comes to increasing the harrassment of rural people and gun owners, by throwing ever increasing bureaucracy and hurdles in front of them. They definitly dont deserve the support of rural people, and are proving that they never have.
Brent

Now that they lost the vote to scrap the gun registry, perhaps they could get enough votes to exempt all muzzle loaders, crosbows, single shot and doubles from both the registry and licensing, leaving rural people with the opportunity to feed themselves without jumping thru bureaucratic loopholes.
Could you see a Montreal massacre , or a Virginia teck massacre being done with a single shot, double or a crossbow. Some asked why they didn't overwhelm the shooter, impossible with a semi, but easy with a single shot, and very easy with a muzzle loader or crossbow. It is extremely easy for rural prople to convert most guns to single shot and they could be converted back again when sanity finally returns to the issue.
The conservative support is dropping rapidly in the west ,largely due to their failure to deliver on this promise. Exempting singles and doubles etc may be their last hope of regaining any credibility on the issue, before the next election.
They are only government and not opposition because of this issue.
Brent
It appeasrs that the conservatives now have enough votes to scrap the gun registry with the help of rural NDP members. With the worsening economic situation they also have an economic justification for doing so , by saying it is either scrap the gun registry or scrap more popular programs. Time for gun owners to start their phones ringing of the hook on this issue.
