$1:
Perhaps the terms on which Lyle Overbay(notes) left the Toronto Blue Jays weren't all that amicable. Or maybe the handwritten note (pictured above) that was taped to the door of the Pittsburgh Pirates' weight room clubhouse at Rogers Centre was merely a good-natured gag for an old pal who had come in from out of town.

UPDATE: Jay Stenhouse, the Jays' vice president of communications, contacted The Stew to say the note is definitely a joke and that Lyle Overbay "is one of the best guys" he and the organization have ever encountered. The players were just having fun. (As were we, though some interpretation was left open.)

The note originally read:

ATTN: ALL PIRATES PLAYERS WELCOME EXCEPT "LYLE OVERBAY"

So don't go hatin' on the Jays or even Overbay for having the nerve to use the workout room. It's all in the name of humor. Or, in this case, humour.

And now, on with the rest of the original post:

Well! Whatever the truth about the note, it is obvious Overbay does not live in Toronto and work for the Jays anymore. He went 1 for 4 with a run scored for the enemy, and the Bucs won 7-6.

As 'Duk noted on Tuesday in advance of his big return to the Great White North following free agency, Overbay thinks Blue Jays fans are still bitter about the 1994 players' strike, and that's why they don't attend games in larger numbers. Or something. So they'd be sure to hold a grudge over him leaving after he spent five seasons in Canada. Or something.

Hey, as Dave Mason sang, "There ain't no good guys. There ain't no bad guys. There's only you and me and we just play for different teams. Eh?"
