While in Quebec, make sure everyone knows you're an American and not an English Canadian and they should be politer. No promises.
If there's a place you will be well served it's downtown Montreal. We are not THAT bad. They are all bilingual and 25% of the time they speak only english. I always begin a conversation in english and then after I switch to french if he tells me "Vous parler francais eh ?" Thats my strong french accent.
Anyway, you are out of the track SheperdsDog.
