He was standing guard at the memorial. First reports say it was a shot gun.

Doesn't show anything, but here's some footage from inside Parliament a short while ago;
there are two members of the Nova Scotia Highlanders, both privates, both from my unit on uniformed guard at the memorial right now... fortunately it does not appear to be either of them, as I saw corporal's chevrons on the injured soldier... initially I could only see the kilt and thought the worst...
thoughts and prayers to the injured soldier, and any others in harm's way...
I wonder about that, if it was a shotgun. In fact for rifles, what sort of magazine limits do we have in Canada? Probably she was exaggerating in the excitement.
Are these guarding soldiers armed, or just ceremonial? Probably time for armed personnel on guard in parliament. And of course soldiers everywhere need to be more cautious. When the CF18's left cold lake, the media was prevented from showing the faces of the pilots or their families. Time for more precautions like that.

Attacker shot dead in Parliament after soldier shot at National War Memorial
One man has been shot dead inside Parliament, after a man with a rifle shot a soldier standing guard at the War Memorial in downtown Ottawa. Police and witnesses are reporting more shots at other locations surrounding Parliament Hill.
650 AM here in Sacramento is reporting that the gunman is dead and that he was wearing a keffiyeh.
Odds are he's not Amish.
Is there just the one attacker?
