And while I don't object to people with what some consider a form of mental illness having their junk surgically altered I do have a problem with the fact that given there is a finite number of operating rooms and surgeons this is going to impact the waiting times for everyone awaiting surgery.

Although the Trans community started screaming about the wait times for reassignment surgery years ago so, given how the NDP operates when a special interest group demands things, this outrage will likely be effective and they'll be moved up the queue while people in pain or with the chance of dying will have to wait even longer for surgeries.

And despite the NDP's claims about cutting wait times simple math dictates that everybody on the list is gonna have to wait longer whether they like it or not.

It's a medical procedure, that's the way it works.
Used to be a guy here with some kind of growth on his neck that made him look like he had two heads. Little kids would scream and run at the sight of him. I used to joke that I'd hire him to man the Complaints Dept. They said surgery wasn't covered.
He got disability and picked up cans out of the ditch for a decade until he died.
I'm sure just doing the damn surgery and letting the guy have a normal life would've been a more sensible choice.

I need surgery for a medical condition and I have no idea when I'm going to get it... But I have to wait another 3 months to see the specialist just to see what they have to do to correct the issue I'm having.

While the surgery is now be covered as a medical procedure it certainly doesn't mean that trans-gendered people have anymore right to expect or get quicker access to the surgical suites and specialists than the rest of the population no matter how much protesting they do.

No it doesn't. But on the other hand, I don't see a rush of specialist surgeons moving to BC to do this either.
How about a compromise. They'll speed it up as soon as they can build a ward and staff it in some hell hole like Burns Lake or Dawson Creek? :D

At the same time, Provinces are de-listing items from their coverage to add things like this?

We've been told that we don't need a penis to identify as a man so the surgery isn't medically necessary. I'd prefer we get back to funding things at the core of our health care system.

Waste of resources.

R=UP

Or, how about Pouce Coupe instead? Something like that could turn it into a wold class surgical tourism destination and in one fell swoop double the size of the town.
