Are you running as a candidate?

I don't know. I will probably help with the campaign somehow, either as support (door knocking or whatever) or as candidate. I'm sure the NDP will want me to run again, since I got a pretty good percentage last time and having the same person run again tends to help grow that. There's little to zero chance I'd win but I would find it fun to have a chance to criticize the Conservatives and Liberals in public again (it's a great soapbox); on the other hand, not sure if I want to expose myself to that metaphorical firing squad a second time around. And once in a very long while long shots do win, so who knows.

But the decision will affect Vive, no question. When I ran last time I tried to stay pretty hands-off of Vive during that time (handing most of the editing over to Dr C etc) except for a link to my campaign site titled "shameless self-promotion" and the occasional comment. It was only practical as well since campaigning is so much work and I was rarely around my computer. So I'm not sure if I could run as a candidate AND be involved with running (non-partisan) federal election stuff on Vive at the same time. That would depend a lot on what election activities/campaigns we were doing of course, because some things we could do may not need much of my time/work/involvement. Of course it could end up being a conflict of interest too. The fact that I ran last time already causes some people to accuse the site of being only an NDP site and seems to damage our credibility a little, warranted or not (since the site isn't run only by me, but by the board, which is not an all-NDP board by any stretch of the imagination; and the party doesn't fund us or provide any input into the site). And if the site was rating candidates on sovereignty and I was a candidate then it could be a definite problem--since why would I give MYSELF a bad grade on sovereignty? So it's a big question for me. I think it comes down to where I can have the most impact. Right now I'm on the fence.

Wwweeeeellllll.
Here`s a little push
From what you write up on Vive, you are obviously very intelligent and know how to think, and very aware of what is going on in the world and Canada.
As well as the need for more women in politics (NO NOT THE ONE WITH BS INITIALS) I say go for it.

First cute now intelligent Can I keep you Spud ?

For sure it would be a lot of fun to raise some hell around here again, not to mention in Ottawa. I'd be happy to crash the boys' club.

Haha, yeah that BS should have been a clue eh?
Spud @ Mon Apr 18, 2005 11:40 am

The difference between you and BS is you have substance, she has only glamour, which is how the party will now promote her.
This country does not need glamour in politics,it NEEDS some serious substance!

Susan, I'll agree with both the cute and the intelligent.

If it's open to you, please run again.

Paul Harris

You should run again, Susan. You did well last time, increasing the votes etc.

whelan costen @ Wed Apr 20, 2005 9:01 pm

I agree Susan, if it works for you, this would be a great time to run! Maybe just maybe, people will actually open their minds to hear the real messages the candidates are sending! If you were successful, and I hope you are, Ottawa won't know what hit them, and we will be so fortunate!

Thanks of the support (and all the compliments guys, eep ). It's actually looking good--I had a phone message last night that our incumbent Conservative MP is retiring. I haven't seen the news yet, but I had suspected he might and if he does, then the race becomes much more interesting, because it's true that it's difficult to beat an incumbent. But if the other two or three candidates are all new this time and I ran once already, I have the advantage of name recognition...
