If I was to hazard a guess it'd be that most of these people will move into Detroit and end up moving out again when they discover that 90% of it's areas are unsafe, unpopulated by whites and basically single house ghetto's.
It's great to get a house for a couple of thousand dollars but when you discover that the City is Bankrupt and unlikely to ever get back into the black without the US and State Government putting alot more money into that Democratic Party Model City failure called Detroit they'll change their mind in a hurry.
Once these people move in taxes are going to start to rise quickly so the city can commence fixing what's left of their 1970's era infrastructure which was left to rot because of corrupt politicians and the fact that their tax base was unable to pay for those repairs because there was no industry or jobs during the past 30 years.
The only way to fix Detroit is to give the city a "do over" extinguish their debts and allow them to start again from scratch with no Federal Gov't interference or political manoeuvering to win votes or try and make it a success even after all these years of failure. Then they could borrow the money they need to make repairs to their infrastructure without raising taxes to outrageously high rates on the infinitesimally small tax base they have and hope to keep. Unfortunately people want things and when they see that they have money coming in they're gonna demand the city spend it on things they want and not infrastructure which is going to lead to problems.

For what? 
Stating that Detroit is an epic failure of the bleeding hearts in the Democratic Party and LBJ's model city program. Although in fairness I guess you could call it a limited success because they did succeed in fostering the new generation of Black leaders they wanted like Kwame Kilpatrick and Coleman young, men who saw the great potential of a federal Gov't funded welfare state and then went about ensuring it came to fruition. 
Like I said the only chance Detroit has is to start over again with a forgiving of their debt and no more outside political machinations to "ensure" black leaders win elections. This city went from a population of 1,849,568 with 83.58 percentage of white people in 1950 to just 713,777 with 10.61 percent white people in 2010.
Over a million people don't normally leave their homes unless they're displaced by things like war, famine or disease so, what would explain the exodus of whites, affluent blacks and every other colour from Detroit other than the fact the model city program turned it into one giant ghetto that people couldn't wait to escape from, industry included?
I have ties to Detroit through my grandfather who was originally from there so, the destruction of this once vibrant and great city by self absorbed social engineers playing God pisses me off. Will it ever regain it's position as one of America's premier cities. Not going the way it is now. Mayor Dave Bing is trying but he's hamstrung by 6 decades of bad ideas, corruption and meddling by outside political forces.

Shep basically inferred that Andy wouldn't move somewhere with too many Black people. Is Shep willing to call you a racist too?

Frekinoldguy, read the article again. I may be way off on this but the people mentioned in the article were with company's growing in Detroit or were themselves startup company owners. This is exactly the type of business that in the end use little to none of the Gov. bail out money. Just like any major city there will always be a criminal area yet with Detroit it may just get better for the majority of the city.
I do agree that new politicians are needed there.
Beaver I'm not sure where you see Racist remarks in what Freakingoldguy said. If you inferred a racist remark from what I said then I'm sorry I was truly not thinking of race when I wrote my comment but what I stated at the start of this post.

My mistake I thought you were saying FOG had the racist remarks when you meant Shep.
And I think I responded already to my point. Just about the same time you were posting. So yep I do think AndyT would not move there without a Gov. Handout and more. This comes from the numerous postings of his wanting Gov. to get more involved and for people to pay more and more in taxes.
And nope not seen anything racist in what AndyT posted.
- #12 ShepherdsDog: Read some of Andy's earlier posts, he was pretty clear about his preference for living in areas where everyone else was white. He was called quite frequently by other posters on his racism and being a NIMBY.
- #13 Thanos: I imagine it's quite fun to buy a house in Detoilet for $9K then have the city hit you up for $30K in property taxes that the city hasn't received because the previous owner basically abandoned his property 20 years ago. The city government should be dissolved completely and taken over by the state legislature. It's about the only way left to salvage that shithole.

Nope your on the mark but, my statement stands that unless they give that place a complete do over nothing is going to change. The city is broke and a few white people and businesses moving in isn't going to negate the economic effects the migration of over a million employed people made on that city.
They may not get gov't handouts especially since there are none forthcoming which means that at some point these new business and home owners taxes are going to have to increase exponentially to make up the shortfall that the Federal Gov't funds used to cover and when that happens they'll be closing up shop and moving to somewhere more conducive to their businesses even if the house prices are higher.
And for the record people can call me racist all they want but the reality is that the actual racists are the ones who perpetrated this failed experiment in Tammany Hall style politics just to give power to a specific colour of people because they doomed an entire city.
- #15 Thanos: The weird part about the exodus was that most of the ones who left the city didn't even leave the state. The ones still employed by the auto manufacturers stayed with the jobs that remained in Michigan. All that happened was the plants relocated to the suburbs and the workers followed them. There was certainly no logical reason to stay in Detroit when the jobs moved fifty miles out of town and remaining in the city meant having to pay city taxes to scum like Coleman Young or Kwame Kilpatrick. Only an idiot would have stayed in Detroit if they made some plaintive 'save the city!' plea from some crooked urban politicians an important priority.
