Peel Regional Police say they are investigating a hate crime after a Mississauga church was vandalized earlier this week.

According to police, officers received a call at around 10 a.m. Wednesday indicating that the St. Catherine of Siena Church, located at 2340 Hurontario Street, had been vandalized. Graffiti was found on the front and back of the church and offensive statements were also spray-painted on the rear section of a school next door.

Investigators say the perpetrators haven't been apprehended and suspect descriptions have not yet been released.

As part of the investigation, police will be reviewing surveillance footage from the area.

A contractor has been hired to remove the graffiti, police say.
