A man from Barrie, Ont., has been charged after a young woman was allegedly abducted at gunpoint in the city’s downtown core.

The 35-year-old man is facing two weapons charges, as well as a breach of probation.

The incident occurred just before noon on Saturday outside a jewelry store on Dunlop Street East, when police said a man exited a Dodge Magnum with a black gun in hand and approached a 24-year-old woman.

After a brief confrontation and multiple demands to get in the car, the woman complied, police said.

Security-camera images of the victim and a female suspect were quickly released by police in hopes of locating the victim.

A few hours later, just before 4:30 p.m., police announced that they had safely found the woman in Springwater Township with the help of the OPP.

A 36-year-old woman, who was named a suspect and arrested Saturday, was not involved and has been released, police said.

The victim -- originally believed to be younger than 18 years old -- has been reconnected with her family, police said.

Police say they will not release information regarding the relationship between the victim and the suspect.

The suspect will be held pending a bail hearing in a Barrie court on Monday.
