If the courts rule that the PC-CA merge was in fact done illegally. Would any of you support the Progressive Conservative Party with David Orchard and Steven Sinclair behind the party?
Kevin
Sheeesh Kevin, if we keep throwing new parties or dying parties into the equation we'll never get enough votes to get rid of the Liberals! All this party contraversy is killing Canadian voters, I fear that if this continues most people will say forget it, and stop lisening to anyone. I think the time for new parties is after the election, after the NDP get in and wamp the liberals butts!
Whelan, in the short term I agree with you. However, I personally support the idea of a high turnover in parties. That way, when one party fails its voters, the voters can boycott it and move to an untried party. The problem now is that most people view it as a choice between the Liberals who have failed them for 12 years, or the Conservatives who have failed them so horribly before. Never mind that the new Conservative party doesn't really reflect the old one in any way. Never mind that we're all familiar with their views as the Alliance. The real longterm democratic situation would include new parties forming constantly, and old failed parties dying just as quickly. But just to be fair, that's a change that needs to take place on the side of the voters before the parties.
