These have been up for most of the year and were going to come down at the end of the month anyways. This was a story in the Ed. Sun yesterday and the people at Shaw said they were going to take it down at the request of the Hindu Community. It's election time in Alberta, the Mayor's just trying to jump on a band wagon today that left the barn yesterday.

First off, I didn't know Alberta HAD a Hindu Society, and second... what the heck is the artist thinking? He's offended because people are offended by his depiction of their religion? How dare they?

Edmonton also has one of the oldest Mosques in North America (Al-Rashid). And one of the first Black communities in Canada (Amber Valley, AB).

Which is why some of us get pissed at the 'redneck' label. I hear that a lot, especially at the indoor gun range at West Edmonton Mall. ;)

And don't think Mr. Mandell is doing anyone any favours here. This display has been up 2 years, and is scheduled to come down in a couple weeks anyway. And it's been pissing off Hindus all this time.

Remember how angry some people got at Chocolate Jesus? Imagine Jesus on the cross with a big 'woodie'.

I thought they were eyesores and I'm glad to see them go.

I agree. I admire the artist for re-using things to make the sculptures, but his choice of subjects could have been better. Religious icons just aren't good subjects for 'art' sometimes.
