Hi all

I was thinking of moving to Alberta for a while later on this year and was just wondering what the job situation was like there, specifically in Calgary/Edmonton.

Cheers

Depends on what industry you want to work in.

Fast food/retail has lots of jobs, but at minimum wage and given the cost of living, expect to work two of them to survive. Lots of other indsutries like the oil patch, construction, etc are bascially just keeping who they already have on staff.

Many companies have a hiring freeze in effect right now and until the conomy turns around, won't be lifting them.

I'm in the trades, and I assure you that there is a lot of work available for qualified people. We are turning work away and booking 6-8 weeks.

If you're a professional hockey player, there are two organizations in Alberta in desperate need of assistance. :P

Thanks for the replies everyone, sorry Lemmy I got 2 left feet and 2 left arms :D I have a chance to go to Canada for a year and I'm just trying to figure out where best to go. I have Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto in mind. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just something to keep me going for a while.

What about the availability of labouring work? I did some labouring work during the summers in college.
