Moving to Alberta ??
I don't think you grasp the enormity of the situation.
Approximately 5,000 basements suites are renovated or created in Edmonton each year illegally with only 30 tries to crack the draconian rules of the city. The fact that the city approved less then a third should give even you a pretty solid idea that they don't want basement suites to exist at all.
Your logic that driving 2 km/hr on the Whitemud is acceptable so long as a bureaucrat somewhere says it’s in the name of safety is asinine. Why should the basement suite be brought to a higher standard then the actual house?
Affordable housing is basement and garage suites that not fictitious slumlords, but rather young families trying to subsidise their first mortgages, or retired couples augmenting a pension can take advantage of while at the same time providing the decent low cost housing solution those in a lower income bracket so desperately seek.

Skip Edmonton if at all possible. It's really a dusty hellhole of a city. Calgary is much nicer. Though in my opinion the 2 best cities in Canada are Vancouver and Halifax. Montreal is also really nice but can be challenging to find work if you don't speak French. If new to Canada I'd recommend going to BC.
Would you just go back to whatever shit hole you came from and stop bitching?
Bitching? The only thing that could be interpreted as bitching was in the first sentence. Was giving my opinion to someone moving to Canada. In my opinion I'd recommend avoiding Edmonton. Everything else in my post certainly wouldn't be considered bitching. If you like Edmonton, then great for you. I don't like it and I am moving out at the end of July.

You were also bitching about Commonwealth in another thread. Anywho, could you possibly take at least another quarter million with you?

So you are thinking of moving to Edmonton, eh? Here is some advice from someone who lives there.
Stay away! Abandon all hope ye who enter here! RUUUUUN!
Why? Let me tell you. The drivers all think they are Mario Andreti, but really do NOT know how to drive. The insurance in Edmonton is the highest in the country for autos because of the vast ammounts of bad drivers. They will cut you off, tailgate you, charge you from behind if you are going the speed limit, and be rude pricks for no reason. There are more collisions in this city per capita than anywhere else, or at least that is what it seems like if you watch the streets and listen to the trafic reports on the radio.
ive gotta ask you.. have you driven in other major cities??? Try driving the speed limit in montreal... youll be tailgated honked at and yelled at to say the least... or have you driven in richmond, vancouver...?? where you have these asians driving below the speed limit not paying attention to anything besides whats 3 feet in front of them?
edmonton is a safe city to drive in!
[I]Of the two cities there I like Calgary over Edmonton! It is kinda rednecky in Alberta in general but like everywhere else there are pockets of nice Canadians. Some of em Albertans are actually proud of their redneck reputation, but it scares NHL'ers away from those places. I heard it is very cut throat in the oil camps with lots a stealing and lots of alkies around

AND JUST WHERE IN THE HELL DO YOU THINK THE MAJORITY OF 'THIEVES AND ALKIES' (Alkies'-a derogatory term, the use of which shows your lack of intelligence!!) COME FROM??? Take a look around your own area. How many people have 'gone to Alberta' to 'Cash In'??? Are they all 'fine, upstanding citizens????
Show me any other place, town, city, with 30,000+ people that doesn't have the same problems!
As long as YOU stay where YOU are, that is ONE LESS PROBLEM DUMPED ON OUR DOORSTEP!!!

You couldn't be farther from the truth. I guess the truth isn't what you were going for though.
