Unca Ralphs $400.00 Christmas Bonus!
I'll probabally just put the $400 toward whatever debt I have at the time. As others have said, I'd rather just not get a health bill every quarter, or have the money put in the trust fund for a rainy day. Odds are, come December, that will just cover my monthly heating bill.
Some questions coming foreward right now:
If you move to Alberta tomorrow, do you get a cheque? If you are born tomorrow in Alberta, do you get a cheque? If you are born tomorrow, and get a cheque, how do you cash it? If you are on the street and homeless, do you get a cheque? Where do they send it to? if you are an Alberta resident currently in Prison, do you get a cheque? If you are an Alberta resident currently serving in the military overseas, do you get a cheque? If it's determined that Alberta Residents at a specific time are to reciece cheques, and that specific time is in the past and you've moved out of Alberta, do you get a cheque?
Ralph really dropped the ball, again.
The residency requirements are being wrangled right now. Ralph did state that prisoners will not get it.
Albertans in the military, currently serving overseas, are still residents of the province.
IMHO, it's too early to say if anyone dropped the ball or not.

I'm thinking I'll spend all $400 on steak sandwhiches at the Crazy Horse in Edmonton

If you're born tomorrow, you're getting $500 anyway as part of the whole Centennial celebration.
I doubt that if you move to Alberta tomorrow you'll get a cheque. Probably if you were in the province before the centenial (ie: moved into Alberta before 2005) you'd get $400 is my guess. That way, you can say to be an Alberta resident prior to the announcement... but don't take my word for it. Who knows? Maybe it's based on who paid Alberta taxes last year.
I don't see why military personnel overseas wouldn't get it since their place of actual residence is still in Alberta (if the soldiers overseas don't read news from home, that's $800 for the wife!)
Otherwise... darned if I know how it will all work out. I'm planning on spending mine on... hmm... er...
...paying for health care premiums?
Hmmm... maybe the provincials will tap into the Alberta Health Care databases - that ought to cover every Albertan...

Well, technically, it's a Registered Education savings plan for $500. Not cashable.

You've never been married, have you? It would have been all for the wife anyhow . . .

Nope, haven't been married. Thanks for the warning... now, does anyone know a good off-shore bank?

I agree that a diversified economy that sets us up long term is a great Idea the thing that concerns me is where are the trades people gonna come from?
I hear Ralphie has that one covered. Seems he's heard the North Koreans had a successful way of coerci,...errr,...convincing Japanese and South Koreans to join the Peoples' Repub and enriching the talent pool.
Come to think of it,...
Peoples'
Republic of
ALBERTA has a kind of ring to it. Might even put the fear of god into Idaho and Montana - havin' us as a neighbour an' all.
Repeat:
It's a joke.....trying to buy votes, literally....imho. Maybe someone should tell ole' Ralffie that getting rid of Health Care Premiums would be a better way to get votes.
Another thing that gets my goat....Everyone gets a cheque....yet not people in prison....wtf is that shit? They don't count? If they don't count, then why does some punk ass kid who has never paid a fucking dime into this get one?
That's quite a bit of money thet've got floating around and this is the best idea they can come up with? Again I'd rather see no cheque and no AHC bill.
Christ Allmighty Ralph needs a good smack to the head. ![Bash [bash]](./images/smilies/bash.gif)

sorry but people in prison are already costing enough, if your worried so much about your ahc why not use the monies to pay it
Bill Good, on CKNW had Michael C. McCracken arguing that Alberta should be passing the wealth up to the Fed's so they could hand it out better. (HAHAHA) They also had Esra Levant from the Western Standard who was doing a good job mocking the idea.
It was pretty obvious how much this would fuel Western seperation.
It's in the Audio vault at Sept.22 9am.

K, I'm just a stupid Newfie but I think it would be better to save $1000 plus a year then to get a one time influx of $400.

Crazy I know but there it is!
It is truly amazing how out of step with Joe Albertan the minority provincial Lieberal/NDP coalition and their special interest cohorts actually are. The government takes in more revenue than it requires to operate and decides to refund asmall portion of the difference to the people of Alberta. Mason, Taft and their ilk are all aghast, nay - horrified that any money should be returned to the people and advocate that the only real ‘responsible’ thing to do would be to ultimately let them decide which special interest group or pet project the money should be directed to. Once again, these flaky left-wingers have demonstrated that there is no way to suppress their appetite for public money. I hope the young growing families with large bills and limited means and the elderly or infirm on fixed incomes enjoy their bonus and the Lieberal/NDP collective never Ever EVER has the means to decide how to spend it for them.
