i'll weight in on this.

as a memeber of the regular CF, NO, NO, NO!!! conscript militaries are a bunch of undisciplined rank amatures. i have worked with conscript on operations, the french, greeks, turks, not professional at all.

conscripts do not want to be there, therefore in order to make them effective you have to make them more scared of their leaders than the enemy. i have seen french officers beat & slap their troops, i watched a turkish officer beat a conscript half to death.

volunteer armies are far more effective. they are better trained, better motivated. they take initiative better, follow direction easier, often getting things done before they are asked. only disadvantage to volunteer militaries is that when they suffer large causualties, harder to replace losses.

knowing this however, commanders take extra precautions, use them smarter. conscript armies, commander don't care if they loose 100 guys, replace them tomorrow with 100 more.

israel is the only military i have seen that has a good conscript army. those teenagers know they are defending their mothers & fathers, they go into the army together, kids from the same towns, boys & girls. they are very well trained, very well equipped and well lead.

for Canada, no need, i'd rather have 1o dedicated people on my crew that 50 dimwits!!!

Couldn't be better said. Let those who earnestly want to pursue a military career pursue it. Last resort is conscription.

Actually most of us in the CF are Tories. Things like duty, honour, WORK & RESPONSIBILITY are foreign concepts to the ndp/socialist "mind"....

That's rich. You're the one working for the government, and I'm paying your salary. And I'm the socialist? Just for that I'm not buying you any more parachutes. Just remember to bend at the knees when you land.

  8O

Good evening,

Actually with the amount of oncome tax I pay, I think I am paying my own salary.

No prob on the chute though. I took the jump coure few years back, jumpmaster told us not to worry if chute did not open when you jumped. You could just go to supply when you landed & get another one.

For the record, I don't dislike socialists, I DETEST SOCIALISM!!!

it's a stupid idea. just plain stupid. "hey everybody let's force our people to do shit, even if theyt don't want to!"

you must be retarded. and values?? what a joke. i have dozens of friends in the military. the only thing they are learning is how to get insulted up close by some jerkoff with bad breath, and how to fear getting sent to iraq to fight a bullshit war.

get a fucking brain idiot.

Of course, in times of war, national service is absolutely necessary, even though we didn't have conscription in Canada in WW2 until almost the bitter end.

Canada did not need the draft in the World Wars and I think the use of the draft did more harm then good.

SprCForr @ Sun Jan 21, 2007 8:23 pm

If the war had gone on any longer it was a foregone conclusion. There were already 13,000 conscripts sent overseas and 2,463 reached the front by VE day.

Military service has its pros, but I don't see how Canada would induct, train, equip, feed, transport, and manage the large group of new soldiers who would be drafted annually. Then what would they do ? Canada can't afford it. We don't have the history, the will, the need and the tax base to make this a reality.
