My parents live in the Comox Valley. I love going there.

You can get a decent house for $300k.

Not sure how much longer that will last. Alberta is buying up Comox for summer homes... well, maybe I'm exagerating just a tick, but not much.

I'd love to move back into the interior, myself.
the interior is the place to be.

the safest area I can think of, in the Lower Mainland, is Langley. It's a nice town and a hop, skip and jump away from Vancouver. The only problem with buying in the lower mainland is the prices. They're through the roof....like, ridiculous.

Chilliwak is nice too, but again....prices.

Area's outside of Vancouver? Sicamous is gorgeous country. It's on Shuswap lake.

Anywhere in the Okanagan....
Armstrong is a really nice area where the housing prices are still decent. That's where they make the cheese! The fall fair around there is so big and wonderful everyone in the Okanagan goes, who lives close by. The first time I went, I lived in Vernon.

Vernon is another really nice city, with both lakes it's a definate gem. Both Okanagan and Kalamalka is there, along with a few others.

Oyama is that cool little strip in between woods lake and Kalamalka lake outside of Vernon. Beautiful area! Totally gorgeous.

The only thing with the OK I've found is it's cliquey. The long time Vernonites turn their nose up at newcomers and you may be there for years without knowing anyone. The split between the poor and the rich is to wide, as well. But, the schools are great. I shouldn't spout though...Vernon is also seeing an upswing in their economy.

In the Caribbo it depends on what you like. If you're not a big shopper, but you do enjoy camping and fishing then the Cariboo is for you. It's a beautiful area, with stunning landscapes and lots of clean lakes. The downside is, once you reach the Cariboo, you start getting into the Northern mindset. It's more redneck up here, but it's also more laid back.

williams lake is the city I come from. I don't know whether to recommend it or not. It can be rough, but it's also known as very freindly. It's not hard to fit in and meet people here. We're going through a little boom because the mines opened back up. We recently got the highest crime rate in BC, per capita.....so I'm not to hot on recommending it at the moment.

Quesnel is a nice city, but it's feeling a recession. Housing prices might be really good there.

Kamloops is a great city, but I'm not to hot about the downtown or the roads around there. It's a bit of a cluster fuck. It's the big city for us, here in WL. We're more likely to go there than Prince George.

That's as much as I know. Anything North of Prince George is NORTH....small, rough, northern towns.

I forgot to add Salmon Arm! Now there's a nice town. I"m not sure of housing prices, but it sure is a gem. The city is set right on Shuswap lake, with a big white beach and docks right in the downtown area.

It's the big city Sicamous residents would go to if they wanted some decent shopping. Sicamous is a smaller town with just the basics. It's the famous houseboating town so the pop. triples in the summer. The park is gorgeous. As there's alot of tourists, they make that town pretty and quaint.

But Salmon Arm is the bigger city, of the area. That whole area is gorgeous, every time of year.

I found the mindset of Salmon arm to be a bit different from the rest of the OK. They have a mindset closer to the Cariboo than the OK. I don't know why.......

Here I am again! LOL. YOu must be sick of reading my posts by now.

I forgot to add the weather differences. The lower mainland is warm, but it's always raining.
The Okanagan is the California of BC. It is nothing but sun and heat all summer, but what people don't know is the winter weather. It's a damp cold, and the sun disapears for months. The clouds just sock into that valley and it's an everyday grey. The nights are usually not much different than day in the summer around there. It's still hot. Sun deprivation. If you get it, you might not want to spend a winter in the OK valley.

The Cariboo still has the mild weather (somewhat) but we get alot more sun. There is a difference. Our cold is more biting. It's sharp. So, when we get out of the car in the OK or the Lower Mainland we feel the warmth right away.

Actually, we get lots of sun throughout the year. In the summer, the nights are almost always cold. Sometimes, though, we'll get a nice warm night.

Once you get into the Northern Regions it's cold as a witches tit ,but very sunny. Prince Rupert is cold as a witches tit with lower mainland weather. But, the Queen Charlottes are gorgeous and the area is good rural, oceanside living.

I am not saying nuttin' about B.C. anymore. Too many people moving here has pushed prices in my area sky high.

I guess I am getting to be one of those "people" trying to keep things the best kept secrets.

Btw I have visitied all places listed on this thread and lived in some.

I even lived near Elkford for quite some time. Shhhhh.

He's living with his Native American uncle in Campbell River now... I doubt he's affecting your house pricing. :)

Actually, its those darn Olympics 2010 that are soaring our prices and we live 4 hours and a ferry from there. It is ridiculous.

All B.C.ers allowed, especially natives. So of course your Uncle gets a free pass, not that I am the B.C. pass police, but now that it is in writing - it sounds good, eh? A secret code to make sure only the good ones get in.

Other than that I had better be careful, I have too many relatives all over and even at that I say, stay in your own part of the country, nothing special going on here. When I am old and gray I am moving North of Lund. Most people don't wanna live there anyway.

Were are you Bara? Bella Coola?

bara @ Fri Dec 21, 2007 11:43 am

Nope, Brenda,

Let us just say perhaps I like to believe I live on a Lost Island. Surrounded by lots of water, but not too far to truly get where I have to get, if I want to get there. :D
