I'm already sick of this election... I hate politics.

Scape @ Fri Apr 22, 2005 7:58 pm

Why do you read up on it?

canucker @ Fri Apr 22, 2005 8:00 pm

Good question... :?

Scape @ Fri Apr 22, 2005 9:29 pm

Let the games begin...

I too will vote Liberal. God help us if the NDP get back in power. The only people that will like that is criminals, drug addicts, bums and the like. The NDP like to espouse how they are the working mans party. BUNK. They just love taking money out of the working mans pocket to give to the above mentioned riffraff.
The NDP just about destroyed the B.C. economy just as they did in Ontario. Remember Bob Rae the Ontario NDP premier coming up with a plan to "spend Ontario out of debt"? Well the Ontarions are still paying for it.
Yep, vote NDP and their bleeding heart friends in the Justice system will be falling all over each other to build more GOLF COURSES for the convict.
Yep, the minute the NDP ever get in power here again businesses will flood to Alberta as the NDP is NOT business friendly. Never will be.
Vote NDP and watch our province nosedive.

Bigboy @ Tue Apr 26, 2005 12:15 am

yeah if you look at any province they've been in power of it went to sh*t. Voting for them is saying yeah make BC, Canadas retirement capital.

Snow @ Tue Apr 26, 2005 7:22 pm

It's funny because when i ride the bus to school we go by houses and their was only one ndp sign for the local candidate and it was on the lawn of the candidate himself. It's also funny because it's my friends step dad thats running.

Bigboy @ Tue Apr 26, 2005 10:34 pm

i wish it was the same here =( i've seen lots of them but i live in a town thats got tons of seniors so no suprise. we have one of the few BC Conservative's running here

Richard @ Wed Apr 27, 2005 10:21 pm

I wish that there was a (none of the above) box on the ballot so you could get rid of the lot if they did not perform for their constituency. One more thing if they lose the electoral vote why do they get their mla pentions THEY WERE FIRED and not 65?

I have an honours english class tha has 50 students in it because the government didn't give the school board enough money to pay for enough teachers for regular english. Also note that my english teacher makes 10 000 a year. I'm not to sure, but isn't that below the poverty line?

I'm looking forward to a government thats 45% liberal, 30% ndp, and 25% green.at least the ndp and th green party have the same value towards education, and somewhat the same direction when it comes to the environment. although i would like to see some offshore drilings.

How do you know how much your English teacher makes?

Sorry... your numbers look fishy to me. Not only is 50 students in one class unlikely, but an honours class? How many are in the regular one?

Unless you mean college, in which case 50 per class isn't out of line.

$10,000 a year seems awfully low... it's only $1,000 a month. Is this the only class s/he teaches?

she can only teach 2 out of a possible four classes a day cause the school board can't pay her anymore. and the two remaining regular classes also have 50 each. one of which the teacher in question teaches. We do have parent volunteers come in to help out often however. I remember the good old days when it was only 30 kids a class. I miss junior high... I came up with the number because thats what I was told. I'm assumeing she has a job elsewhere. I don't think its as bad in other districts though. We have alot of special needs kids in our area, and they cost alot more to teach and look after than the rest of us.

So you're in High School then? I'm more familiar with Elementary class limits. Each district has to maintain the proper average number of students per class. That means that if the average is 22, one class can have 24, but only if another has only 20.

If Secondary Schools have similar limits, there must be some empty classes.

Your teacher's salary still seems low. It sounds like she's only half time, which means a full time teacher would make only $20,000. I don't think that's right.

no it isn't right. Gordy campbell and all his tax cuts. The limits have been increased in schools. it used to be 20 in elementary, its now 25. but most public schools are 30-35 because you got the private elementary schools that have 10 kids a class. in junior high its 30, and its suppost to be the same in high school, but i think it averages out to 35. Most people skip the arts nowadays and go to phys ed classes. Because we are strictly not allowed to have more than 30 in phys ed, there are many of those types of classes. bringing the average down. It was better in math though, we have 5 math courses in each grade, so ther is usually only 30-35 kids per class. although in essentials of math, the lowest kind, more kids, 40-45 go because they simply want the easy way out of school.

I meant it isn't right as in I don't think it's correct.

The limits have increased, but in some cases they're lower than they used to be. Plus, there's a sliding scale... 22 in Kindergarten, maybe 24 for primary and a few more for intermediate. These are averages, though, so some kids will have a few more, others a few less in their class. This was done to allow flexibility, to prevent a child from missing a class because there were 25 kids and only room for 24.

I don't think private schools fall under the same rules, but I could be wrong.

well it seems the government wants to privatise everything. Its getting late, and I got to catch a bus tommorow morning. ttyl.

zarathustra @ Sat Apr 30, 2005 5:17 pm

no... they'd never get away with privitizing primary or secondary education. Although, a conspiracy theorist would point out that the first step in privatization is to cut funding/make the public system disfunctional.

I'd like to see a Liberal minority (yes, another one, but provincial); their fiscal good sense combined with the Greens' environmentally responsible practice, or the NDP's regard for people would be a healthy combination. The Liberals are whores (they'll do anything for a buck), the NDP has questionable economics, and business is scared of the Greens (they're "unconventional"). Having the election day preset would mean the parties would accept that they have to work together, and wouldn't be jockeying for position. To hell with the "elected dictatorship"... maybe STV is the only way to get a minority in (on a long term basis).

Zipperfish @ Sat Apr 30, 2005 5:37 pm

Yes, vote for the STV. It'll take power away from the established parties, reduce partisan politics and empower your local MLA.
