Teachers Going on Strike?
I was hearing rumors about how the teachers in my town might go on strike for the start of this year. I was wondering if anyone else in BC has heard anything in their areas?

There's going to be a strike vote on Sep. 20. That's all I know.

I bet there are alot of hopeful kids in BC!

If there is a strike it's not like schools will close. What will probably happen is that teachers will suspend all the after-school stuff they do (coaching teams and stuff like that).

No more school, no more books, no more teachers dirty looks.

who cares the idiots union spent 1.5 mill in last election, i wont support them anymore when they strike.
when the teachers went on strike in Sask. they were forced to keep teaching regular class's, but they stopped doing all their other responsibilities, coaching, supervision, drueling over the girls in gym class.
the students of my town then went on strike themselves against the teachers by not going to class, and smoking pot in the IA lab...

haha ya a few years back the teachers stricked and the week after we had a huge walkout
teachers in BC were declared an "essential service" in BC under the NDP.. so if they want to walk out say hello to the unemployment line.. to quote donald trump.. You're FIRED
So sit back and take the 0-0-2% that everyone else is taking and quit f'ing whinning about it.. You work for 8 months out of the year.. You basically get Summers/ Christmas ( and every other freaking holiday off).. you get paid anywhere from $35,000 (first year) to over $65,000 to with hold services great. I remember when kids went to school and got an education..
Now they go to school and learn all about the Collective bargaining process and how thier teacher who is making $50,000 ( a great salary) plus a year is getting screwed by the government.
Then they learn all about same sex marriages and the like...( I have no problems with the gay and lesbian lifestyle) but I don't want my 5 year old to know how your date with your boyfriend went.. Even If you were a hetrosexual and you were talking about your dating life to 5 year olds I would hold you in question as to what the hell you are doing.
We used to have teachers that loved to teach, thats why they became teachers.. now every one is a union activist.... too bad
try teaching before you say how easy it is. it's a little more challenging than figure skating. there are alot of useless tits out there, but that is a direct result of educational fads. however, there are still alot of dedicated teachers out there, who get absolutely no support from parents and administration. they are expected to be surrogate parents, social workers, confidantsand educators. they are expected to bear all of the responsibility, yet they have been stripped of any power to maintain order in the classrooms. i left education(if you can call it that nowadays) for exactly those reasons. don't challenge them, their self esteem comes first, competition is wrong, can't grade them, don't discipline them, don't give them any expectations, spelling doesn't matter, the content is more important, phonics is outdated, try this new fad, don't raise you rvoice, can't fail them if they are stupid, disruptive dumbasses, can't remove them from the class room if they are disruptive, it infringes on their right to an education, don't pander to those who actually want to learn. need i go on? do you face any of these challenges, as a coach, while your ladies are on the ice?

To the ones who are out there that give a damn I tilt my hat.. and I say a heart felt thank you . I never said it was easy. In comparison to being a doctor, Police officer, Fireman, Ambulance attendant.. air traffic controller.. Thier job is less demanding (physically) but still has a lot of stress attached to it.
I have friends who are teachers and others whom I went to university with that joined the education system. Out of that group of at least 7.. I have seen 5 quit outright because of what they had to deal with... these were the good ones they wanted to help teach and influence young people... I see a lot of drift wood and chaff coming through the education system to become teachers.. It is that drift wood that I am opposed to...
The stuff you pointed out is bang on the money.. Yes there is attrition and burn out because everything is not in place. Class sizes are too big yes.. teachers should not have 40 + kids in a class room 20-22 Max
My oldest son" Nolan" is autistic the constant Bull shit that we are put though every year by teachers who donot really give a crap is huge. He has a right to be in school and he has a right to an education... Don't come to me and tell me that you want to place him on a "modified " program because it makes things easier for you...
SEA's (special education assistants) should not be used as photo coppy girls or "gophers" for the class they are there to assist a student that has special needs.... If you want to have handicapped students integrated into regular classes then this must be the way. The SEA and the teacher must find ways and means for helping these kids.
I have personnal seen the union Bullshit that has gone on within schools ( i used to belong to a strong union but as far as I now believe they are beyond the point of thier usefullness) I have gotten into several strong and heated disputes with friends who are still teachers because of thier strong union influenced lives...
I am opposed to this job action because of the way the union became so politically active against the liberals in the last election.

Unfortunately, the teachers catch a lot of the flack (sometimes deservedly so) that rightfully belongs to the higher -ups. Those that set "policy" like the Superintendents, and government officials that don't know/don't care about the real world or the classroom!

Well funny thing , the teachers don't make the ciriculum they only teach it. Or try, It's the non union managment types that have never set foot in a classroom to teach that make this up.
Please stop with the bashing, you aren't making any sense..
Word around my school from teachers and students is that BC teachers will be going on Strike on either this upcoming Friday ( Oct 7 ) or the following Tuesday.
