I am annoyed with the Federal Liberals, hell, I'm even annoyed with the Fedral NDP! Both parties have known for at least a month that an election was immenent. Wouldn't you think that in this battleground Province where either party could pick off some seats, that they would get their collective heads out of their ass, nominate candidates, and gear up for a campaign?
I live in the Cariboo-Prince George Riding and we have a real smarmy Conservative running for his fifth term. He isn't solid, he is very vulnerable! Either NDP or Liberal could defeat him if they put some real effort and money into it. The NDP finally nominated their candidate (the only one to file for the nomination) a week ago Sunday. The Liberals finally got around to it this Sunday and nominated their candidate (again, the only one to file for the nomination). You just know that some bright young political strategists in Ontario wrote off the BC ridings long ago as unwinnable. There will be no funds from the Federal paties to campaign in BC.
I suppose we just have to face the fact that we in BC will always be the after-thought of Canada.
Both of those parties are pretty hot to get seats because they won't get many in Quebec.
Who is you're CPC? Is he lazy or do you just not like him?
My MP is Dick Harris. He is currently running for his fifth term. I've yet to meet anyone, Conservative or otherwise that likes him or than can name anything he has done for the riding. He has a good job, that's about it. He wasn't always our MP; before lasr election, we were represented by Philip Mayfield, a Reform MP. I found him to be a good hardworking MP that was responsive to his constituants. He retired and the riding was gerrymandered so that we were included in Dick Harris' riding. We have written to Harris on two differnt occasions to express an opinion. Neither letter was acknowledged.
In the past ten days, I've received five mailings from Dick Harris MP informing me of the terrors the Liberals have committed. We, the taxpayers, are paying for his mailings and he can get away with it because he is not directly soliciting my vote. Last spring, he put up big highway signs throughout the riding with his picture informing everyone he was our MP. Recently he opened Constituancy offices in every town in the riding. All of these things are blatant political campaigning at our expense and an unfair advantage over challenging candidates but I think he is barely within the law in doing it.
Sounds familiar. The Reform party was fresh and hungry and both Chuck Cadman & Randy White have been terrific MP's. I like to think that the CPC will be as good, at least in my riding because I know Penny Priddy and I definitely don't want her as MP. She'll just troll for a senate seat.
Of course though, actual results may vary.
Mail out's are pretty common for the incumbent but those big signs with his face sound lame.
Sounds like Dick Harris is getting stale.
Sounds like he could use some competition to wise himself up.
Timetrvlr, same problem here in Williams Lake (not sure where in the Cariboo you are?). Not a soul came by my place campaigning this time. Last election, Charlie Wyse made the effort to go door to door, which impressed me, so the NDP got my vote last time. The problem this time around (I've talked to quite a few people about this, and it seems to be the general consensus), nobody had HEARD of the other candidates, due to lack of campaigning, so a lot of people ended up voting for Dick Harris, because they knew him (and this always seems to be a Conservative riding anyways ). I am truly disappointed that the Conservatives are on top. Well anyways, there's my two political cents, lol.
