According to NEW GLASGOW (CP) Peter MacKay Deputy Conservative leader has been banned from road for two weeks joining the ranks of pedestrians next month.
The Central Nova MP will serve back-to-back seven-day driving suspensions, beginning May 21, after being caught speeding twice last year.
MacKay was to go to trial in New Glasgow on Monday on one of the charges, but a lawyer pleaded guilty on his behalf.
An RCMP officer clocked MacKay going 134 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 104 in Broadway, Pictou County, on Nov. 11.
MacKay told the officer he was late for a function.
The same officer pulled MacKay over on Dec. 23 on Highway 6 in Caribou River, N.S., for going 109 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
MacKay had already pleaded guilty to the second charge and was set to take his week-long driving suspension the week of April 24.
His lawyer, Craig Clarke, requested Monday that the original suspension date be changed because of MacKay's schedule. The Crown consented and the judge agreed to apply both suspensions in May.
The MP was fined a total of $430 for both offences.

But you'll never guess where his suspension will be served .....

.....

According to Clarke, MacKay will be in Australia at that time. A country that started as a penial colony how fitting....

Should we expect more from our elected officials. yes this is small compared to the Chretien hotel scandel and teh Liberal scandal we are now watching.
however anyone who has ever been speeding at 30 over twice in a short peiod (like a month and a half) probably didn't get off so lightly.

As a police officer I can only bring the individuals to court as the RCMP member did. the Justices hand out the sentences as a slap on the wrist with no deterrence’s for future offences. This really makes me want to go out and stop everyone and fill a ticket book. NOT! :x

134 km/h in a 100 km/h hahahah 134 is the slow lane on the 401 in Toronto.

I lived at CFB Borden for a year and even the 400 had speeds for NASCAR - in the rain. But what is amazing is that you guys can have a 200 car pile up with zero visibility in a snow storm and evryone walks away scratching their head or ass saying that was close.

Yesterday we had a single vehicle accident where an edlery couple struck a guard rail flipped over and both drown in the Saint john river flood waters.

Last summer visited my brotherin WAterloo and returning home 2 guys on roth rockets were blistering between the lanes at about 190. about 2 minutes later 4 OPP's on bikes with lights and sirens were following between the lanes. good luck catching these guys. the difference is that you in ON have highways we don't. My father when he was alive got stopped just on the NB side of the QC border by the RCMP where he was doing 90 in a 100 zone. The officer wrote him a ticket and told him to speed up because he was impeeding the flow of traffic on the super highway. My father got a second ticket when he stated if this is a super highway then what the f@#$ is the 401 called - a super dooper highway!!!!

Do I ever miss driving the 401 and 400 speedways where a driver can be a driver.
