Uh, have you even seen those bodies of water? They're not exactly fit for drinking.
Any body of water is fit for drinking. It's not like the pipe runs right from the river to the tap. This isn't Mexico.

Are you wlling to drink the water that flows through lets say the hudson river... Drinking water all over this planet will one day be a wanted traded and expensive commodity... not the way it is now... tap water with all of it's impurities and chemicals...... California's not the only place that was water problems down there...
In the future, cleaning and/or desalinating water will be as easy as scratching your head.
Well, since you have such a fat head, I'd imagine it's quiet difficult.
