Questions about your health care system.

Is dental, vision, and prescriptions included?

If you wanted to see a dermatologist what would you have to do? Would you need a referral? How long would it take you to get an appointment? Then would your health care pay for monthly follow ups?

Pregnancy - Do you have to go to a clinic? Do you have monthly, then later term weekly appointments? When you go into labor does the hospital take you in immediately? What if you start having trouble like a stressed baby or double footling breach? Have any of you posters had recent experiences with this?

Do your children see regular pediatricians or do you have to go to a clinic for immunizations? That may sound stupid but it seems like a lot of you go to clinics for health care. Do you get the same doctor each time when you go to a clinic?

Does your health care pay for abortions (early term, late term, or partial birth)?

Does your health care coverage pay for birth control pills or intrauterine devices?

How long would it take to get an MRI and then surgery for a tumor in most cases? My husband had a rare tumor in his spine if surgery would have been delayed he would have been crippled because the tumor was pushing his spinal cord. Due to a fantastic surgeon he has survived 10 years and counting when most people die within three years. He was diagnosed and had surgery in less than two weeks with another follow up surgery a month later to make sure they removed it all. Would this happen as quick in Canada?

Why do you have a shortage of doctors, nurses, and hospitals? Do you think Canadian doctors migrate to the US? (seems like your actors do! just kidding)

If your spouse, children, or parents had cancer would you trust the Canadian Health care system to work efficiently and provide the best health care as humanly possible in an acceptable time frame?

What is the minimum wage in Canada?

What are the taxes? Do you pay federal, province, city, and local taxes?

first you have to see a family doctor and if he approves you to see a specialist it is covered . dental is not . perscription is partly covered and if you spend alot in a month then it is fully covered if your income is low, Emergencys are done right away. none emergencys are not. There is a little shortage of doctors but most doctors like it because they get paid with no worries. we pay federal provincial and property taxes along with sales tax prov and fed.

She knows, this has been answered already.

scarecrowe @ Fri Oct 10, 2008 4:48 pm

It only costs me about $3k a month for this "free" health care system.

roger-roger @ Fri Oct 10, 2008 4:58 pm

I dont pay a dime, and I get more then that :P

Eisensapper Eisensapper:
I dont pay a dime, and I get more then that :P

You're welcome, sort of.

bowens2 @ Fri Oct 10, 2008 6:03 pm

Scarecrowe are you saying you pay $3000 a month? in taxes? Why is Eisensapper not paying a dime? Is that $3000 all of your taxes or just a healthcare tax? An is your annual income high and does everyone pay the same or the more you make the more you pay?

My husband and I pay about $3000 a month for excellent coverage which includes a little dental and prescriptions. No vision. Ours is only that high because my husband has had cancer. That is my big concern with your healthcare if the US should change over to universal healthcare. If he would have gone undiagnosed he would have been paralysed.

Brenda you did answer some of my questions but not all of them.

Brenda @ Fri Oct 10, 2008 6:08 pm

So you just copy/paste your post into a new topic. Nice.

bowens2 @ Fri Oct 10, 2008 6:46 pm

I am not saying you don't have people diagnosed with cancer. I mean I wish that was the case. I don't want anyone to have cancer. Please don't be so hostile. I am just saying the one poster said it took a year for her father to get an appointment with a neurologist. My husband would have been paralyzed if the wait is that long.

I not saying you don't have great people up there that do wonderful things and since my husband has cancer I hope the hell your researchers find a cure with the help of the money you raise. I don't care what country comes up with the cure as long as someone does.

Yes Brenda I did cut and paste I thought since I was not getting some of the answers I would just repost and see if someone else would respond.

Are all Canadians this hostile towards American? I am on a canine diabetic board and the Canadians are wonderful about answering questions. But guess it is not the case here.

bowens2 @ Fri Oct 10, 2008 6:51 pm

But my sentence should have said if he would have gone undiagnosed for a year or even six more months he would have been paralyzed. His spinal cord would have been pushed out of his spinal cavity.

scarecrowe @ Fri Oct 10, 2008 6:58 pm

$3k a month is just about right.

The Fed tax portion allocates $0.08 out of every dollar to direct health care support (not much). The provincial system allocation comes from transfer payments from the fed and their own tax base but the allocation proportion evades me. The funny thing is is that feds allocate 1.1 BILLION dolars to the CBC. Ludicrous.
