I don't know why this got so little press. Perhaps it is routine. Anyway Canada deserves a big Thanks! I just bet that U.S. and Canadian forces operate together all the time up there.

$1:
.....For three weeks in November, Canadian CF-18s filled in for the F-15s over Alaska. Several times, the Canadian fighters scrambled to "do an identification" of Russian bombers flying exercises outside U.S. airspace near Alaska, said Maj. Mike Lagace, a Canadian military spokesman for NORAD.

"We flew up, met with the long-range patrol, basically let them know, 'Hi, folks, we're here too,'" Lagace said. Russian warplanes have been flying exercises near Alaska and Canada with increasing frequency in recent months.

Now, a brand-new squadron of F-22s based in Alaska is standing in for the state's grounded F-15s, said Tech. Sgt. Mikal R. Canfield, a spokesman at Elmendorf Air Force Base.....

No surprise here.

This is the way an integrated AIR DEFENCE should work.

The Bears will be nervous about stealthy stuff showing up without warning and make no doubt they will be there to evaluate just how stealthy the F22 really is.

The F22 does not deploy in peacetime the same way it would deploy during a war. In peacetime it purposely emits low level traffic to foil anyone trying to collect info from it. A flick of the switch and it becomes a black hole in the sky.

Perhaps the Canadian Airforces could look into the Russian Stealth progam as it is real cheap and can supposedly be used on any aircraft.

The Russian stealth method uses a plasma method. (google: russian fighter plasma). Basically, using a generator to ionize the air surrounding the aircraft. The electrically charged air supposedly confuses radar detection. Personally, I find this kind of curious. Having been around military aircraft, I know that planes generate plenty of electical charges. We used to call it "St. Elmo's Fire". Maybe the Russian method turns the plane into a real fireball.

It the Russian method works, well... we might as convert all the radar systems into backyard barbequers.
