Avro Avro:
$1:
while we're at it, let's not forget the other 116 Canadian military personnel who have died serving as peacekeepers.

Here's to that, the unfortunate thing is a lot of people do.

Tell me about it. When I tell friends and family that November 11th is the most important holiday (except in Ontario and Quebec where it's not even a stat holiday), they look amazed. I always tell them that that holiday gives us the freedom to celebrate all the rest. Then they nod sagely and go on to forget all about it...

This was a long time coming. While those in the U.S. military who are responsible for discipline ought to hang their heads in shame, at least someone demonstrates some semblance of class.

The Airforce, not the Airborne were the guys Avro

Just to answer a few questions;
1.Harry Schmidt was responsible for his actions, end of story.
2.No grunts (infantry for those who don't know) took the heat for Schmidt
3.Yes the Canadian military attempted to court martial one of our snipers, but after he was awarded a bronze star by the US it was quickly shut down! Also you are in fact correct about the longest shot. I can't remember the exact distance but it was over 2000m!

Further to the 'friendly fire' incident, after that day anytime we went to Tarnack farm to train we always provided a troop to sit with the air traffic controllers in Kandahar to remind them that there were friendly troops in the area.(By we I mean all coalition troops in Kandahar)

As for your comment Lily about having a hand in their death, if you don't know the circumstances then shut up!

Hey hothead. You have a hell of a way of telling someone they're incorrect. I agree with Lily's assessment of it being weird. Maybe you should tell me to shutup too.

Everyone is forgetting about the bridges, schools, buildings etc here in Canada that have been named for those who have fallen. I am happy(and proud) that the 101st thought so well of them/us that they felt they deserved to be remembered with their own. From a soldiers persective that's a big honour. Allies giving a shit about one another is a good thing.

This is actually a better guage of how our relationship is with our cousins than any loudmouths rant or brainless media story, or agenda driven political statement.

"Mr Emotional. Mr Sensitive", Avro you are truly back to being a twit! As for accusations flying, I was clearing up the accusations that were being voiced with no proof or knowledge of what happened!

As for your comment about Somalia, wake up and keep this thread on target instead of trying to steer it to anothe agenda. Yes, I was a little angry, but thats simply how I feel about uninformed people making statements about something that they have no knowledge of. But hate, Avro once again jumps off the deep end and reveals his lack of deep thought! My God, you are sometimes such a twit. I thought we had this discussion about you before but I see you haven't/can't change! You started with a good post on a decent subject and within a couple pages started with your usual rhetoric.

I even complemented you on a good post but you seen fit to attempt to insult me, maybe you feel threatened or something! Anyways got to go, it's been a slice!

Hey Mukluck, shut the fuck up! (You asked me!)

Lily that was no attack towards Avro or you. It was a stupid comment made by Avro about Somalia that caused me to reveal his ignorance. I believe that when someone makes an asinine comment about me before they have the facts then they should be exposed for the moron that they are! This is a common theme in most of Avros posts, he might start out with a well thought out post but then he throws a little dig at anyone who he doesn't understand or follow. He really gets quite tiring.

As for the shut up comment I will try to tone it down in the future but just so you know, I really don't tolerate ignorance or stupidity well. I think thats why I tire so easily of Avro!

:( Nathan Smith was my cousin and although I have no use for the pilots who were being cowboys and eager to fire at anything that moved, I commend the honour being given.

OK........ here we go!?

Let's TRY to not lose sight of the fact that four good men lost their lives!!! Some of you should stop all the other bullsh*t, shut the hell up and realize what this is all about!? Unfortunately... during wartime, there will always be loses due to "friendly fire" whether during battle or during training exercises. Is this excusable? No... not not at all, but it does... and will continue to happen no matter how careful we try to be!?

As an American... my deepest sympathy goes out to Canada and to the families of the lost soldiers.

I'm going to lock this one. There's no point in getting into a pissing match over an old thread that's been beat to death. Sorry "noob" if you're that passionate about the topic, I welcome you to start another one.
