Can anybody tell me how this is a good idea? I have visions of the Jews being told to get id cards to "protect their privacy" and then later the cards are used to round them up for the "camps"

I'm certain that they were told the same things we're being told now. We have so far Birth certificates, Social Insurance Numbers, Provincial ID, and or drivers licences. Some, like my self, have passports. Is this not enough? It gets me into any other country and should be good enough to get me into the USA.

Honestly? I'm pretty scared of the implications and fall out from this one. Not to mention the cost (individually and as a tax payer)

I was planning on taking my daughter to Disney land in California this May. It may have to wait until I can save up for Disney land in Paris France.

I think this could have some positive aspects. But has the potential to be missused and become expensive. But i think were at that point, the US sure is, and if we want easy access into that country we might have to follow suite. Plus i think a smart id card could simplify things and make things safer.

This is my little idea. S smart card that acts as your Personal passport. Its your drivers license, passport, sin, credit card, all the card you have in your wallet in one smart card. If you say goto save on foods and want to signup for there card, they would just swipe your card and program there program onm, adding it too the card. The card would have a large pad where you place your thumb when you swip it anywhere, if the thumb swiping it is not yours access will be denied.

I know Microsoft and Sun Microsystems, have been pushing for things along this line. Microsoft is trying to do a simular thing on the internet, with there .net passport.

Well in France every one has a "National Identity card" that they must carry at all times with them.. has its good points and its bad side..
Good points
Less fraud with govt programmes such as welfare, and health care and determining eligiblity to other benefits where folks have been defrauding agencies for years...
