The U.S. does issue a two dollar bill. However you won't see many of them. They are considered bad luck. There is a thing about tearing off a corner. So American two dollar bills tend to get mutilated. Well, they just don't circulate well.

Now there is a myth that the Canadian two dollar bill shows an American flag flying over the Parliment building. I can't find a good photo of the Canadian two dollar bill to see where this comes from. But if one were to Google: 'canadian two dollar american flag', you will see many references to this "fact".

Heard a joke about how every Canadian has a two dollar bill stashed away, because someday it might be worth something. ha ha... well, that's probably a real old joke...

   

Er...the US 2 dollar bill isn't easy to come about because they stopped printing them in the early 80's, i think. Plus they never printed as many as the other denominations. Nothing about bad luck that I know of though.

Albertans were weird about $2 bills too. If I remember correctly wasn't it linked to gambling somehow?

   

On the Canadian $2 bill it is not an American flag. They say this to try and make themselves important. It is acutally the Canadian Red Ensign. Our countries pervious flag bearing our Coat of Arms and the Union Jack.

   

the ten is fucking close though. for all i know that dot could have been a pen drop, and it looked to low to be the coat of arms.

   

They still make them every year you could go to your local bank and get as many as you want.

   

Yup A Casino in the Michigan U.P uses them to see what impact it has in the local economy..The "earlier" bills were pulled for some silly reason//

The $2 bill in the picture is series 1976. You can still get these in uncirculated bundles of $200 from the Mint.

There was a more recent series (I believe under Clinton) and that print run is actually rarer than the 1976 series.

A lot of people in the USA have issues with $2 bills - last year there was a guy in Maryland, I recall, who tried to pay for something with a bunch of $2 bills. The store manager called the cops who arrested the guy for counterfeiting and they didn't let the guy go until the Secret Service confirmed the bills were legit.

   

i have some, just never use them...don't know why--i guess i don't want to go to jail-ha!

   

When I was a kid (long ago and far, far away), one could remove the bad luck of a two dollar bill by tearing off a corner.

More recently, I have had some fun with the Susan B. Anthony Dollar coin. I would show the coin to ladies at the pub asking them to identify the lady on the coin. Even when I told them it was Susan B. Anthony, they still didn't know who she was. So much recognizing an important historical person.

I guess the U.S. now has a golden colored dollar coin... but have never seen one.

   

Susan B. Anthony is not all that important, a fact which is underlined by your experience.

The new 'golden' dollar features Sacagawea and her bastard child on it. It is a tad more popular than the SBA dollar only because vending machines frequently use it as change for $5 bills.

   

When we still had the two dollar bill I found that everywhere west of Ontario was wierd about it. There were places that just did NOT want to take it...?? When I found out that folks considered it bad luck I made a point of bringing at least 200 bucks worth of them every time I went west.

   

Here in Montreal 2 dollars bills wer mostly like cents that you find in your pockets.Mostly for children to buy candies.Old times.
