I find it sad that some of you feel that you need a pat on the back from the good ol' US of A to recognize that Canada does something, as you can all tell from the title of this thread.....oh well...what else can you expect from the conservative wing other than weak kneed subserviance..?
Great article.
I was lucky enough to know some Canadian Forces vets growing up. My grandfather went to France in 1918 as a 19 year old and he enlisted again in his forties to train troops, in Vernon I think, during WW II. I also got to know many WW II vet as a kid.
They were some of the most modest and capable people I've known. It's hard to hear about the casualties we're taking, but I'm proud of the courage our men and women are showing in Afghanistan.
In the immediate aftermath of the "Halifax Explosion" the first relief to arrive was from America. Bostonians chartered a ship and put stuff aboard with doctors and nurses and sent it on it's way. The American's ship arrived before the Canadian relief trains............
Oddly apparently the first foreign assistance after 911 came from the Palestinian Authority. Arafat was clever enough to arrange their movement with assistance of the Israeli's---they arrived by Al EL.
Experience rescue people with equipment for rescuing victims from collapsed buildings complete with specialist dogs.
This was a smooth move by both the Palestinians and Israeli's which got zero press.
If you recall Arafat had that "OH SHIT" look on his face while his people danced in the streets. Perhaps that was the motive for this swift extension of emergency assistance. And the Israeli's were clever enough to expidite it.
Wonderful article.
I'd have to say they should read it because its informative and a boost to morale.
Let me say this.
The American people are good, big hearted folk who want everyone in the world to live the American dream. They want everyone to be free, have democracy, a home with a white picket fence, two dogs, a cat, 2.6 children (is that the average today?), a car, and all the trappings of comfort. They give to those less fortunate, and it generates millions, if not billions, of dollars for charity every year. They care about the wellbeing of others around the world, and cry out when they are told about injustices and attrocities. Many are willing to fight, and even die, for their own nation and other nations, even if it takes a little while for them to get themselves stuck in.
Their armed forces are strong and well equiped, but I have to say the USMC is the best of the bunch. A bunch of rough and tumble, ass kikin folk who take no crap, and dish it out in great quantity. Profesionals in their trade and as soldiers, I liked them the best of all the groups I have dealt with.
Also, props to the 101 Airborn. Good folk, keep up the good work. RAKASAN!
