Neil MacDonald reporting..........

Is it just me, or does having Neil MacDonald reporting on the US for the CBC seem something akin to having Don Cherry reporting on European hockey?

Something like that. His bias is pretty obvious.
America has it's pundits....
And we have ours,
Complete anti-American twat he is.
An utter disgrace to balanced reporters everywhere.
As a Canadian I'd rather have an "Anti-American" giving me the news than a "Pro-American". I'd prefer a neutral person, but given the only those 2 choices that's what I'd choose.
Neil seems to look down his nose a little at the US, that's fine by me. If he was a raving lunatic it would be different though. IOWs, he's not "Anti", he's just not "Pro".

Here here, agreed.

As a Canadian I would prefer that the reporters that my tax dollars pay for behave like reporters, you know, report facts and not let their personal bias affect their performance. MacDonald is incapable of this. If they want to be a pundit or a columnist then they can go work for a private corporation.
Compared to when this idiot was in the Mid-East he is postively restrained on the US. Watching his reports about Israel were teeth grinding. I think the CBC got him out of there before some local over heard one of his "reports" and put him in the hospital.

I thought Unbiased reporters where extinct?

The union that represents reporters in the UK confirmed that notion last week when they voted to boycott Israeli products. A couple days later a Palestinian group reportedly executed a BBC reporter...........
But as to your point? They should not be. For the news industry I am a layman but even I understand that bias in reporter is inherently dangerous. We all, including reporters, have views on the subject of the day. But their job is to not let those views affect their reports. MacDonald is a reporter, not a columnist.
Now a private corporation like the TO Star or the TO Sun can, and do, have political leanings obvious in their editorial style. They are private corporations. The CBC is paid for by everyone that recieves a T4 at the first of the new year. We have a right to expect as unbiased a view as is possible. The CBC fails in this miserably with MacDonald one of the chief culprits.

I agree, I don't like bias, but his bias is far tamer than you imply.

Not from where I am standing. He has zero business pretending to be a reporter. If he wants to do opinion pieces then let him, but he needs to stop pretending he is an honest broker. He has no use for the US. He has no use for Israel. It is blatantly obvious.
